Celtic can extend their lead at the top of the SPL to eight points with a win at Motherwell, but Rangers will have four games in hand.

Aberdeen will be without two key defenders, with Zander Diamond suspended and Alan Maybury (rib) injured.

Darren Mackie picked up a knock during the week and will also be absent, along with Richie Byrne, Jamie Smith (both hamstring) and Lee Mair (thigh).

Dundee United can recall midfielder Danny Swanson after a three-game suspension.

Manager Craig Levein also has Swanson's midfield colleague Willo Flood available following a thigh injury.

Gretna will make changes to the team that played Kilmarnock last weekend, with midfielder Ryan Baldacchino having left the club.

Midfielder Paul Murray is still missing after suffering a cracked rib.

Brian McLean will replace Paul Quinn after the Motherwell captain suffered a broken jaw in a nightclub incident. McLean slots in at right-back after Quinn was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Stephen Hughes is over the illness which forced him off at half-time during last week's draw against Dundee United.

Celtic skipper Stephen McManus will face a fitness test on a calf injury. Manager Gordon Strachan has no other injury worries.

Kilmarnock hope to have Allan Johnston back after recovering from a knock while Mehdi Taouil (thigh) may make the bench.

Martyn Corrigan, Frazer Wright, Alan Morgan, Craig Bryson, Willie Gibson, Rhian Dodds and Tim Clancy are all out.

Brian Kerr and Alan O'Brien come into contention after returning to training, but their fellow midfielder Merouane Zemmama remains sidelined after breaking his foot.

Rangers winger DaMarcus Beasley could end a lengthy spell on the sidelines following a knee ligament injury.

Lee McCulloch (foot) and Charlie Adam (knee) are also close to fitness but the match may come too soon for the midfield duo. Steven Whittaker is suspended.

Falkirk will be without the suspended Arnau Riera. On-loan goalkeeper Shane Supple is expected to keep his place, but defender Dean Holden (broken leg) is still out, while Jack Ross could be omitted after signing a pre-contract agreement with St Mirren.

Hearts look set to welcome back winger Andrew Driver after the youngster recovered from a thigh tear. Striker Christian Nade could also return after missing the 1-0 win over Inverness Caley Thistle because of a head injury.

Laryea Kingston has shaken off illness and could start but Robbie Neilson will miss out with a pelvic complaint.
