Tony Mowbray insists that West Brom will not have to sell their best players if they get relegated from the Premier League.
The Baggies are six points adrift of safety with just three matches remaining and looking certain for an immediate return to the Championship.
Mowbray wants to keep his side together next season and feels his players owe it to the club to stay.
He said: "We'll be strong in the Championship next year if we go down, as opposed to others who have over-gambled in the Premier League, gone down and their money is gone. Those clubs keep plummeting but we have no need to sell players. We are stable.
"If we do go down and come back then we'll be stronger."

tildeslym: Also, I dont keep singing Mowbrays praises, read previous posts. I think he has made lots of errors this season and last season. For instance, poor team selection, poor formations (4-5-1 so many times at home), poor purchases (Valero, Moore, Meite, Beattie, Hoefkens, Barnett, Zuiverloon, Kim costing nearly £20m) and his interviews have been comical and repetative "I would suggest". Comments like "Its all about the performance" and "We are a good team from box to box" are just plain stupid. We havent defended well for 2 years and still have defensive issues and he was a defender and a good one in fact, in his day. Having said all that I actually think he has been poor. BUT he got us promoted, he took us to Wembley in the FA Cup Semi Final. Short memories and I bet you were singing his praises last year and enjoying Boinging when we won promotion v Southampton. So with this in mind he deserves another crack and hopefully he has learnt from his mistakes. Only time will tell. Give him until November of the new season and if we are not challenging then its bye bye. Put it like this we could still have Robson in charge!
Tildesleym: Another thing, I dont agree with the up and down philosophy. I hate it, but we are still better off than we were a few years ago. Short memory bank and I dont just jump on the bandwagon when we 'do well' and jump off when I feel like it. You support your team during good and bad. We did spend well in the summer, in fact more than any other manager, in excess of £20m, so he was backed financially. He wasnt in January, which i feel is down to the fact some of his signings have been poor and Peace has said your not wasting anymore, this is your squad, you bought them now get them playing. The 'good' players we were after and bidded for in August (Frazier Campbell £4m and Kevin Thomson £4m) didnt want to come to us. If players dont want to sign then they wont, but that money disappeared in January. I actually live just outside Tipton and I'm not pompous! I'm realistic.
tildesleym: The Kevin Phillips scenerio has been played over and over again. Truthfully could he hack in the premier, I dont think so and neither did he. He WAS offered a two year contract, with the second year being triggered by playing 19 games, either starting or sub. He obviously didnt have faith in his ability at 35 to be a consistent performer and command a regular pace and so therefore took the easy option and went for money (nice signing on fee there). How many games has he played for blues this season? 24 starts to be precise in the league and 12 sub appearances. He could have had that 2nd year contract at teh Baggies!
Hey Mark W nobody wants to support the dingles just because i dont agree with your up and F#cking down philosophy, we dont have to spend like crazy i agree, but we should have at least spent to try and stay up we only needed a couple of players, how many goals do you think Phillips would have scored that Fortune , Moore, Simpson, Bednar, missed i seem to recall he just put Birmingham up,he could have kept us up and we could have got stronger next year, i bet Peace wish he had given him that extra year now, but he does not care he gets parachute money going down and promotion money going back up, you keep singing Mowbrays praises so i know you don't come from Tipton because talking like that you would be knocked out in most Tipton Pubs, because all the baggies fans i know around town hate what has happened so maybe you are right and we are all wrong you Pompous P#ICK, "UP THE BAGGIES"
what the guy below has said is very true, and while im not a baggies fan, i would like to have all the midlands clubs in the prem, makes it more fun and lots of local derbies...fed up of all the london and mancs teams takin over the top flite...so its about time us midland clubs cemented themselves in the prem and atarted winning trophies like we used to in the early days of football....midland teams used to win evrything then, no sign of the so called top four then....the top four was villa, wba, wolves, not brum tho...lol .....and what u need in the prem is a shrewd manager who knows when to buy and how to buy the right player, its a hard job, but it can be done..but if u gonna employ someone who had one good season in scottish second class football, then it aint neva gonna happen.....u need the the sam allerdyce's of the world to establish yourselves in the prem....
We didnt 'miss out' on Roy Keane, we didnt want him cos we have a manager! He did well at Sunderland didnt he? spending over £50m and look where that got them! and you say Mowbray is the clown? As for Hyppia, well you can't just buy anybody! The player has to want to come as well. Lets get something straight quality players go to quality clubs because the agents tout them to the top clubs. Quality players demand high transfer fees, signing on fees and wages. We are just not in that market. Lets all be realistic about things, we have not got the financial support to go out and compete with the premiership teams. We have got to hope to establish ourselves for a season, as Bolton and Wigan have done recently, then hopefully be able to attract better players and pay better wages.
Southampton, Charlton, Leeds, Notts Forest, Bradford, Swindon, Barnsley, Sheff Weds, Norwich, Leicester, Wimbledon have all been in the Premier, spent stupid amounts and where are they now! I think their fans would swap places with us at the moment. Why the negativity, when we have had 2 trips to Wembley, 3 stints in the premier and are still in the black. you can always go and support the dingles if your not happy!
see we even get comments from people who are not Baggies fans see comment#5 even they know we are crappy at spending and i am sorry to say he is right we will always be a championship side till we spend more money on players and then we will get the Albion Muppets, who say look at Leeds FC, well there is a difference between spending to stay competetive and spending like drunken sailors like Leeds did so lets not confuse the two "UP THE BAGGIES"
He's bought championship players and funny enough, thats where they will be playing their trade next season. We will have a strong squad in the championship, but lets hope we learnt our lesson by spending on wages, not transfer fees.
albion are and always have been and always will be a championship side cus they dont spend money when they come up...so wud u believe, they go back down agen....oh yeah and its cus they got a @#$% manager who buys @#$% players = @#$% team...lol
Here we go again not bad enough we miss out on Roy Keane the other week now we miss out on Sammy Hypia who is doing our scouting and recruiting Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder when will this F#cking nightmare end "UP THE BAGGIES"
Right on Kenneth K, lets all keep going to the games paying our money being loyal supporters and Peace and Mowbray will still keep taking the P#ss i believe the fans are more brainwashed than Peace is with Mowbray, well you F#cking muppets can keep wasting your money but these thieves will get no more of mine until i see changes that West Brom deserve, and as for the supporter that said well what will i do with my saturdays if i dont go to the match, spend it with their Family and if you dont have a girlfriend or a wife well you are obviously spending to much time at the Hawthorns would be my guess, so go and get laid you obviously like sex Peace and Mowbray have been F#cking you all year, "UP THE BAGGIES"
I think we should change his name to "Tony I don't listen because i know best Mowbray" more dribble from out of his mouth. I for one wouldn't want to keep half the @#$% he's put on show this season,Meite aka sicknote, Barnett,Valero,Moore i think we'll take a big hit if we sell those as we should.I just found out Hyppia has gone to Leverkusen that's a shame because I'd still pay £5m for him, better than Meite and Barnett put together. Lets see if you have learnt anything from this season Tony and please stop buying @#$%.
Tone oh Tone tell me who is "our best players" i have yet to see, your saving grace has been the emergence of Graham Dorrans i have said many many times this kid will go on and play for Scotland he is the battling mid fielder we have been looking for sorry lad to put such a burden on you.....you will be at Man Utd or Liverpool within 3yrs cos we wont be able to keep you.....as for the rest you say no need to sell Tone i dont see a queue forming to buy any one of them mind you i challenge you to get 3 million for Moore and get our 5 million back for the crazy buy of the season Valero ( who ).....
