GROUP A

Poland continued their good form as they came away from Azerbaijan with a 3-1 win but they had to come from behind to secure all three points. Two goals from Jacek Krzynowek and another from Euzebiusz Smolarek answered Branimir Subasic's shock opener for the hosts.

Goals from Bosko Jankovic and Milan Jovanovic gave Serbia a 2-0 away win in Finland to keep up the pressure on Poland while new Manchester United recruit Nani was on target for Portugal in a 2-1 win over Belgium. His opener was equalised by Marouane Fellaini only for Helder Postiga to net the winner.

Earlier in the day Kazakhstan went down 2-1 at home to Armenia. Robert Arzumanyan scoreed the opener for the visitors from 18 yards and Sargis Hovsepyan added a penalty before the break before Ruslan Baltiev notched a late consolation penalty.

GROUP C

Defending champions Greece remain top of Group C after a 2-0 home victory over Hungary. Theofanis Gekas and Giourkas Seitaridis were on the scoresheet for the hosts.

Elsewhere, Bosnia-Herzegovina snatched a vital last-minute 3-2 win over visitors Turkey through Adnan Custovic while Norway took apart Malta 4-0 to remain in touch with the leaders.

GROUP F

In Group F, Denmark's clash with Sweden in Copenhagen was abadonded with just one minute remaining after a fan - clearly aggrieved that Christian Poulsen had just been sent off for a clear punch - ran onto the pitch with the intention of assaulting the referee.

Sweden are likely to be awarded the game 3-0, despite the 3-3 scoreline after 89 minutes. Jon Dahl Tomasson, Leon Andeasson and Dan Agger replied for Denmark after Johan Elmander (2) and Petter Hansson had given the visitors a 3-0 lead.

David Villa and Xavi were on target to give Spain a deserved 2-0 away win over Latvia to keep them in touch with the group leaders. Luis Aragones' side are now just a point behind Sweden and Northern Ireland.

Elsewhere, Iceland were held 1-1 at home by Liechtenstein. Raphael Rohrer equalised superbly after Brynjar Gunnarsson had opened the scoring for Iceland.

GROUP G

Two goals from Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov inspired Bulgaria to a 2-0 away win in Belarus to effectively end Belarus' hopes of reaching the finals and keep alive their own hopes of qualification from Group G.

Romania pulled level with Holland at the top with a 2-1 win over Slovenia thanks to goals from Banel Nicolita and Gabriel Tamas. Dare Vrsic popped up with a late consolation for the hosts who lie second bottom after six games after Albania beat minnows Luxembourg 2-0.
