England midfielder Gareth Barry wants his future at Aston Villa sorted out now rather than have the situation drag on over the summer.
The 27-year-old is wanted by Liverpool but Villa have been angered by the public pursuit of the former Brighton player.
Barry said: "I would like things cleared up. The sooner the better, it would be easier for myself and for the fans as well, so I'm sure we can get it done pretty soon.
"I've got nothing planned with Martin O'Neill but I'm sure the manager will want to speak to me and I'll eventually want to speak to the manager. That will come soon enough.
"It's obviously very flattering, the team has made a bid for me but until the bid gets accepted I can't even think about it."
Barry has established himself as a regular in the England squad and would relish the chance to play Champions League football.
"Champions League football helps any player," he said. "You only have to look at the England squad to see the amount of players who get in the squad and start the games - the majority play in the Champions League.
"That's all about the decision that will have to be made by myself. Liverpool are in the Champions League and Villa are trying to push for that. That's all part of my decision if a bid gets accepted.
"Just to think about it makes it a tough decision. There's so much to lose at Aston Villa. I've been there for 10 years, got a good rapport with the fans, I'm captain [and have a] great relationship with the manager."
At England level, Barry was given the captain's armband for the second half of the 3-0 win in Trinidad and Tobago.
"Getting the armband was a great moment for myself, to wear it for the half," he said. "It will give me a lot of confidence going into next season, it was a perfect way to finish the season.
"If you were to lead the team out from the beginning, then I could have looked at it a different way. But it was still a great feeling just to do it for the second half."
Barry also revealed England's Italian manager Fabio Capello is getting his message across clearly.
"There's a bit of banter there and I'm sure there'll be more the more English he has," he said.
"He's very relaxed. He's known from the outside as quite a strict character but he picks his moments at the right times to have a joke."

Garreth Barry, What can i say to help him make up his mind. 1, we can only reach the dizzy hieghts of champions leauge with him, and secondly, if he was to go would it bennefit him as a player as he does not need the cash, Stay with us for one more year at least, then if we do not improve no one could fault your commitment. AVFC for ever.

I would love to see Gareth Barry at Liverpool but I don't think he needs to leave Villa to keep in the England first team, I enjoyed watching Villa last season in a lot of games and think they will still come short of getting in the top 4, good luck on whatever decision you make Gareth
I think this should be the main talking point for the next edition of early doors, and I would like to see this subject brought up; why does Gareth Bary have two first names? I mean, you could swap them around, and they'd probably still sound just as mental. Barry, is my eyes, is a first name. I used to go to school with a guy called Barry, though he was a bit thick. I don't think he would have understood the consequences if his first name would have been his second name.
But hey, there you go.
But Barry? Could they not have put a hyphen in there somewhere? You know, just so it would have sounded not so first-first name in the whole name game malarky?
well if Barry thinks his England prospects will be enhanced by warming the bench at Liverpool rather than being the first name on the team sheet at Aston villa he is sadly deluded.
I can understand that he is 27 years old and needs a new challenge but I think he has one at villa helping Martin O'Neil see if he can take villa to the next level.
I also feel that Liverpool have disrespected Barry with a very derisory £10 million offer when they seem to think Crouch is worth £15 million and a midfielder Alonso they are selling for £16 million.
I feel Barry would be better to stay at Villa and be playing week in week out as from the little we have seen of the new England manager Mr Capello he seems to like his squad to be 100% match fit just ask David Beckham
