Fiorentina hitman Adrian Mutu wants to leave Italy and move to Bundesliga outfit Schalke, according to reports in Germany.
Bild claims that the 29-year-old striker - who netted 17 league goals last season - is ready to quit Serie A for a new challenge with the Gelsenkirchen club.
Fiorentina value the player at 16 million euros (£12.6 million), but Schalke team manager Andreas Muller is unable to sanction such a level of expenditure.
Instead, the German club have reportedly put together a 10 million euro (£7.9 million) plus Denmark international Soren Larsen package for the Romania international.
New Schalke boss Fred Rutten sees the former Parma, Chelsea and Juventus ace as the perfect signing to spearhead his side's bid for the Bundesliga title next season.
But Mutu, who is currently with the Romania squad ahead of this month's European Championships, is unlikely to sign a deal until after the tournament in Austria and Switzerland.
