Jelena Jankovic comfortably defeated Carla Suarez Navarro 6-3 6-2 to set up an all-Serbian French Open semi-final against Ana Ivanovic.
The third seed was relatively untroubled by her Spanish opponent, and could barely have wished for smoother progress to the final four at Roland Garros.
Jankovic has endured a rash of aches and pains over the past week and did not want to prolong her stay on Suzanne Lenglen Court longer than necessary.
"I flew by private plane right away to Serbia [after her fourth round win], so I arrived that night [on Sunday] and I had treatment," she said afterwards. "I saw my doctors there I've been working with for a long time.
"I had more treatment in the morning and flew [back] yesterday, and so I was here in the afternoon. I had a light hit for half an hour to be ready.
"Otherwise, I don't think I would be able to have been on the court today, because I was really in a lot of pain."
Her patched-up body withstood the test provided by the 132nd-ranked Suarez Navarro and she will next face much stiffer opposition in the form of Ivanovic for a place in the final.
Jankovic broke twice to win the first set, and raced away with the second with a competent, if unspectacular performance. As usual she stayed rooted to the baseline and from there managed an impressive total of 32 winners with powerful groundstrokes.
The unseeded Suarez Navarro played well in patches, but made far too many unforced errors and was ultimately outclassed.
She did manage to break Jankovic's serve on two occasions, however, which will no doubt give the world number two Ivanovic cause for optimism.
After blowing her first two match points, Jankovic made no mistake on the third and sealed victory when Suarez Navarro's sliced backhand dropped behind the baseline.
Suarez Navarro's demise ended her bid to become the first women's qualifier to reach the semis at Roland Garros since the game turned professional in 1968.
