Championship - Armstrong recovery on course

Reading physio Jon Fearn is confident Chris Armstrong will be fit in time to return for pre-season training at the beginning of July.

The Royals' player of the year joined from Sheffield United last summer and went on to play 40 league games for the Championship side until picking up a knee injury.

The 26-year-old defender missed the final three games of the regular season, along with both legs of the play-off semi-final defeat to Burnley, but is making good progress in his recovery.

And Fearn told the club's official website: "Chris has been back running for a little while now and the next stage of his recovery is light football work.

"We will continue to monitor him, of course, and we're hopeful he will be back for the summer with no problems."
