Championship - Ferguson no longer in Reading running

Eurosport - Wed, 03 Jun 18:31:00 2009

Peterborough's director of football Barry Fry has confirmed that manager Darren Ferguson is no longer in the running for the vacant Reading manager's job.

FOOTBALL Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson has laughed off talk of a move to Aberdeen as he celebrates being named the LMA manager of the season in League One. - 0

Reading had an approach for Ferguson rebuffed last week and the Coca-Cola Championship club have now confirmed that Ferguson is not on their final shortlist of four candidates.

Fry told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "All these clubs and all this speculation, Darren can't help it, he's been linked with every job that there's a managerial vacancy for, which is not his fault.

"But we've only had one enquiry and that was from the director of football at Reading where he said he had a list of 12 that he was going to his chairman with and Darren was on that, would we give them permission to speak to him.

"And the rest is history, we said no certainly not.

"The same director of football phoned me on Saturday morning to say that he'd seen his chairman, he'd drawn up a shortlist of four and Darren wasn't on it so that's the end of it as far as we're concerned."

  1. Peter C- From the latest news coming through, it looks as though respect and integrity are out the window, as it seems Brendan Rogers is being lined up for the job.Only thing is he apparently never applied for the position and....oh,is currently Watford`s manager. Therefore either he approached Reading or Reading approached him !!
Any chance of Coppell coming to Watford ?

  2. I can't see the point of pressuring a person into changing football clubs, if Fergusson wasn't interested then why pursue the matter. Reading will get some one soon, one who will be willing to take over. Just hope he is a goodun.

  3. Thats just typical of Reading FC - do things properley, ask permission, and when that is denied, dont pursue, if only all other clubs were like that, shame though young Fergie seems to have a lot about him.
