Marseille have chosen not to take up the option to buy defender Tyrone Mears, who will now return to parent club Derby County.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 UEFA Cup Marseille Tyrone Mears - 2

Mears has spent the season on loan with the Ligue 1 side and does not want to return to Pride Park.

Derby have received no offers for Mears, who has one year remaining on his contract.

Rams chairman of football Adam Pearson told the Evening Telegraph: "We are planning on him coming back to Derby County for pre-season.

"Tyrone is a player who we would sell if we got the right offer for him but we have heard nothing so far. We have had no interest in Tyrone at all at this moment in time."

Pearson added: "Giles Barnes is in the same boat after returning from his loan spell with Fulham and we have had no interest in him either."

  2. I always thought Mears was a good full-back but after what he did, he can forget about being wanted back at Pride Park. As for Barnes, he has flashes of brilliance but more often than not he just disappears in midfield.

  3. there's no point in hanging on to players that don't want to play for derby.mears thought he was clever and did a runner to france and he's been such a roaring success that nobody wants him and barnes is that far up his own backside and thinks he's better than he is.good-riddance to @#$%.
