Premier League - Drogba set for three-year deal

Eurosport - Wed, 03 Jun 17:37:00 2009

Striker Didier Drogba will be offered a new three-year contract by Chelsea.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 - Chelsea-Everton - Drogba - 0

Contrary to speculation that the Blues were not prepared to hand him a fresh long-term deal, one will be put before the Ivory Coast international within the next week.

Drogba is seen by Chelsea as being irreplaceable and has proved his worth to the capital club yet again this season. Despite his earlier problems with former boss Luiz Felipe Scolari, Drogba returned to his best form under the managerial tenure of interim coach Guus Hiddink.

He was at the centre of controversy following Chelsea's Champions League exit at the hands of Barcelona when he confronted Norwegian referee Tom Henning Ovrebo after the final whistle.

Drogba's foul-mouthed rant was seen by millions as he swore straight at the TV cameras.

However Chelsea have been impressed by his behaviour since the incident, for which he apologised almost immediately. Chelsea now believe that it is better to keep Drogba than look for a replacement.

  4. Drogba fans have to remember once the Milan boss comes to town he's potentially bringing either Kaka or Pato or both. If this happens Drogba is riding the bench. Drogba fits well into the English system but is he a true footballer?

No, NO, please - worst nightmare.
Drogba hanging around here for another 3 years. Please spare us from the diver, mouthy, frantic, and above all, useless individual who masquerades as a footballer.
He is only signing because no other club on earth wants to sign the plonker.
I really thought he might exit the UK this Summer, no such luck, but how long before the new guy susses him out?

  9. So pleased that Drogba has signed for another 3 years at the Chelsea. What ever people say about him he is one of the most feared forwards in the world. Don't think he cares what people say about his behaviour, he is one of the best. As for his antics after the Barcalona game, I think most humans with a love of their team and of justice would have done the same. He will pay the price no doubt but he was only telling it as it was. Even I swore at the ref several times during the game and I am friends with the Pope!
