Waugh to captain Barbarians

Australia flanker Phil Waugh has been named captain of the Barbarians side that will play his Wallaby team-mates in Sydney on Saturday.

Barbarians coach Dai Young picked Waugh as his skipper after the long-serving Australian was granted permission by the Wallabies to leave his own team and represent the famed invitational club in the one-off match.

Waugh was one of three Australians, along with former test scrum-half Chris Whitaker and back-rower Rocky Elsom, selected to play against the Wallabies.

The Barbarians squad also features internationals from New Zealand, South Africa, France, England, Ireland and Samoa as well as three uncapped players, including former New Zealand rugby league international Sonny Bill Williams.
