Nottingham Forest have been warned that they will not be able to sign Brighton defender Joel Lynch for a cut-price fee.
The 21-year-old made 24 appearances for the City Ground outfit during a successful loan spell last season and manager Billy Davies is keen to make the switch permanent.
But outgoing Brighton chairman Dick Knight insists Lynch will only leave the club if the deal is right for the Seagulls.
"Joel will only leave the club if we get the right offer for him," he told the Nottingham Evening Post. "He has two more years left on his contract and is a Brighton player.
"He is well under 24 and we have had him since he was 10 years old so he comes into that Bosman category."
Brighton could ask Forest if they can take Matt Thornhill or Gareth McLeary on loan as part of any potential deal.

if they ask too much for him then we should look else where. I didn't rate him last season anyway. We should look elsewhere for a backup for Bennett.
