Relegated Newcastle and Middlesbrough have been handed byes into the second round of the Carling Cup.
The Coca-Cola Championship new boys were due to launch their campaigns in the first round during the opening week of the new season.
However, Wednesday's confirmation that England will not be granted any further places in the Europa League has resulted in both the Magpies and Boro going straight into round two during the week beginning August 24 - due to their status as the highest-ranked of the potential first-round entrants.
Newcastle went out of the competition in the third round at home to Tottenham last season, while the Teessiders had the misfortune to encounter eventual winners Manchester United at Old Trafford at the same stage.

after relegation its a shame the players who are overpaid letting the supporters down]
owen is finished-its all about commitment-because the championship is a very difficult league to complete in-there aint much room for error if the players are not fully commited then they will be like southampton-and leeds and man city befor
big egos cost the club dear
why are these embarrising north east teams still in the premier league section, they need moving to where they belong in the championship. FTM
