Hamilton comfortable with Blain decision

Gavin Hamilton can go into Scotland's final ICC World Twenty20 warm-up match encouraged by pushing England hard - and relieved at the decision to allow John Blain to walk away from his squad.

The Scots are up against Netherlands at The Oval on Wednesday, having made England battle for a six-wicket win at Trent Bridge on Tuesday night. It was after that match that Hamilton explained exactly why his friend and team-mate Blain chose to leave the squad on Saturday.

"Blainy made a strong decision - one that has probably been brewing for a few months now," said Hamilton, who spelled out his thoughts in tough terms to his team after a defeat against Bangladesh at Wormsley four days ago.

"Cricket is going forward at such a rate of knots, and we've got to improve. If we don't keep moving we're going to be left so far behind.

"That was what the team talk was about. I've been pushing and pushing for our bowlers to keep mixing it up - that's what you've got to do in this form of the game; otherwise they're just going to line you up and take advantage of you."

Hamilton's vision of the future found favour with his entire squad, apart from the veteran seamer.

"Blainy disagreed, and disagreed in the way I went about it," he recalled.

"I am quite aggressive in the way I go about things. But I think that is something that is needed, and every other person has responded absolutely superbly except Blainy.

"He took me aside in the hotel and said he was going home, and I certainly didn't stand in his way."
