Euro 2012 - England v Belgium: Player ratings
How did England's players get on in the friendly against Belgium at Wembley? Here are our ratings:
GK - Joe Hart - 7
A quietly competent performance from the Manchester City man. Made six saves, none of them particularly challenging.
RB - Glen Johnson - 5
Problems at both ends of the pitch. Bamboozled by Belgium's rotating forwards in defence. And in attack, he got no change out of Jan Vertonghen.
CB - Gary Cahill - off 19 mins - 6
Little time to make an impact before Dries Mertens's snide push sent him careering into Hart, sustaining a jaw injury in the process.
CB - John Terry - off 70 mins - 6
For a man who loves to let everyone know he is around, this was a subdued performance. Went off after feeling a hamstring injury.
LB - Ashley Cole - 8 - Man of the match
You don't have to like him, but you do have to respect his enduring quality over 94 caps. Six games away from becoming England's sixth centurion.
CM - Scott Parker - 7
A typically tenacious performance from the Tottenham man, who happily looks to have got over his Achilles injury. Booked.
CM - Steven Gerrard - off 83 mins - 6
Eye-catching, but not always for the right reasons. Tried too many 'Hollywood' passes and struggled to make much of a positive impact.
RW - James Milner - 7
Not the most glamorous of England's options out wide, but certainly the hardest working. Also delivers a decent cross.
LW - Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - off 67 mins - 6
Slipped when taking an early shot, and despite some positive moments is not likely to contend for a starting berth against France.
AMC - Ashley Young - off 67 mins - 7
His run of goals for England came to an end, but he assisted Welbeck for the winner. Nailed on for the second striker role during Rooney's ban.
FW - Danny Welbeck - off 53 mins - 7
Where Andy Carroll offers physicality and power, Welbeck provides clever runs and neat touches. His finish was a peach. Could start against France.
MANAGER - Roy Hodgson - 6
A win is a win, but England were often made to look leaden and inflexible by a side that did not qualify for Euro 2012.
CB - Joleon Lescott - on 19 mins - 7
Typically assured, and ended the game looking like a Terry Butcher tribute act after getting his head bandaged.
CB - Phil Jagielka - on 70 mins - 7
Replaced Terry - might the former Everton pairing of Lescott and Jagielka prove England's best bet at Euro 2012?
CM - Jordan Henderson - on 83 mins - no rating
The much-maligned Liverpool man had no time to make an impact.
RW - Theo Walcott - on 67 mins - 6
Did not get into the game as England concentrated on defending their lead late on.
FW - Wayne Rooney - on 53 mins - 6
It's nice to see him in an England shirt again, that's for sure. But Rooney contributed little.
FW - Jermain Defoe - on 67 mins - 7
A sharp cameo from a man destined for a supersub role. Hit the post.
