Canaries - No Hammers bid for Holt

Sun, 03 Jun 13:50:32 2012

Norwich have denied reports that West Ham have bid £4million for wantaway striker Grant Holt.

The 31-year-old this week reaffirmed his desire to leave Carrow Road and has been linked with a host of clubs including the Hammers, Sunderland and Aston Villa following ex-Canaries boss Paul Lambert's appointment as Villa manager.

Reports claim West Ham have made the first move with a firm bid for Holt, who scored 15 Barclays Premier League goals last season.

But Norwich chief executive David McNally quickly denied the speculation.

He wrote on Twitter: "Just for the record, we have not received a £4m bid for Grant from West Ham as apparently is being suggested."

  2. Is it a case of lack of ambition once again on Norwich Citys part, remember Martin O neil leaving time and time again Norwich try to run . the club on a shoe string ive lost count on how many good managers have left the club. i hope im wrong and wish Paul Lambert good luck and every success.

  4. Terry - My comments did not in anyway show sour grapes for either Holty or Lambert, I and almost everyone else associated with the Club have the utmost respect for them both and I am sure that we all hope that Holty will stop with us. We all knew that Paul would not be with us for long but but hoped for one more season, it was not to be , good luck to him. Derek.

  5. Derek, grow up you were in the third tier when Lambert and Holt joined, they have both done you proud, get a new manager and captain and move on without the sour grapes.

  6. Paul Lambert has stabbed all the loyal fans of Norwich City in the back. His earlier statements that he was happy at Norwich, and all that insincere nonsense he spouted about a good rapport with the fans, Fans that i might add Mr Lambert has paid your wages for the past three years. And if Grant Holt wants to leave then Norwich should take the offer from West Ham.Its obvious to me that Lambert knew he was going to leave after the last match against Villa, and i think also Holt knew as well. Norwich City will always be here they wont.Good riddance to them.

  7. To reply to Thomas: 1. The good manager is leaving after three successful seasons not one. Norwich and Villa are just steps on Paul's chosen career path. He has moved to a club with probably a better resources to expectations ratio. 2. Financial conservatism is probably not a choice at Norwich, ask Portsmouth if borrowing heavily on overpriced journeymen players making sideways moves rather than skilled players on their way up, makes good sense. 3. Grant has been great for Norwich as well and as he has only recently hit the big time, who can blame him for trying to maximise his rewards. I would have loved to see them both at Carrow Road next season but that's life.

  8. Are the Canaries starting to fall apart after such a run of success?? It would be a great pity, and would begin to suggest that the running and aims of the club are perhaps too conservative, and the club have still failed after all this time to attract big investment from outside, believing raising ticket prices alone (an insult to the fans who have loyally followed them since the dark days of League One, which was the club's own fault too!!) is enough to guarantee a budget for sustained growth in the premier League... A good manager leaving after one sucessful season, the Captain and top scorer who has silenced all doubters wanting a move to another promoted club rather than leading the success and stability on field for a second campaign, no new blood agreed, .......... Oh dear, Delia .....
