Williams expects captain conundrum

Thu 03 Jul, 01:15 PM

Colchester manager Geraint Williams is expecting to have "a number of candidates" to be the club's new captain.Williams made his third signing of the summer earlier this week with the capture of former Barnsley captain Paul Reid, and with Matt Lockwood - once captain of Leyton Orient - also on board, Williams is delighted to have added some leadership to his squad.

The Us need a new captain for this season after Karl Duguid's departure and Williams believes he will have options.

He told the club's official website: "We are delighted to welcome Paul to the club as we have been talking to him for a little while, and are glad to have the deal sorted.

"Something we have always looked at is the character of those we're bringing in, and if they are good players alongside that then it can only bode well for us.

"Obviously, we are looking for a new captain at the club and I would expect that there will be a number of candidates who would put themselves forward and show great pride in leading this football club."
