Downhiller was last seen at Sandown's abandoned evening meeting in May when one of those affected by the slippery home bend but he bounced back in style to land the Cheviot Asset Management Handicap at Newbury on Thursday.

John Dunlop's three-year-old was backed at all prices from 25-1 down to 12s, and benefited from a tactical frontrunning ride.

Eddie Ahern made sure the colt had a handy position early on in the mile-and-a-half event and was in command all the way down the straight to deny 2-1 favourite First Avenue by a length and a quarter.
