Jockey Danielle McCreery was taken to hospital by air ambulance after suffering a frightful fall before the first race at Redcar.
McCreery was unshipped from the Ruth Carr-trained Only A Splash going down to the start for the Market Cross Jewellers Apprentice Handicap.
The six-furlong contest was delayed 35 minutes while on-course medical staff attended to the rider.
Redcar chief executive Neil Etherington said: "The air ambulance arrived and she was taken to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough."
