LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Phil Jackson says his health is good and he will return to coach the Los Angeles Lakers for another season, the National Basketball Association team announced on Friday.

It will be Jackson's 19th season as a coach in the league and 10th with the Lakers, who won the league championship last season by beating Orlando in five games.

"I feel confident that I can gainfully pursue an NBA season with another long playoff postseason. All things point to go," Jackson said.

The 63-year-old Jackson signed a two-year extension in 2007 but has been hampered by a bad hip and has undergone two hip replacement surgeries.

Jackson collected his 10th championship last season which vaulted him passed legendary Celtics boss Red Auerbach for the most in history.

He also passed Bill Russell (11) for most titles won by a player/coach. He has now collected four coaching titles with the Lakers and a half dozen with the Chicago Bulls.

  1. Phil Jackson is the most successful coach in the NBA. When he coached a team, he never missed any playoff spot. Even without Shaq, he still could bring Lakers to the top of the league
