Phil Vickery has been recalled to a new-look British and Irish Lions team for the third and final Test with South Africa in Johannesburg on Saturday.
The England tight-head (pictured) replaces the injured Adam Jones, whose tour was ended by an illegal tackle from banned Boks' lock Bakkies Botha in the second Test defeat last weekend.
Vickery will be given a chance at Ellis Park to redeem himself after a difficult time in the first Test loss, when he struggled against opposite number Tendai Mtawarira before being replaced soon after half time.
Mtawarira will again be lining up opposite Vickery to provide one the most interesting sub-plots for Saturday's game.
"When a game goes against you it's a matter of pride and you wait for the opportunity to put it right," said Lions head coach Ian McGeechan
"I bet Vicks will be over the moon that he's got that chance now rather than stewing over the summer.
"He is a really strong character and I'm sure he'll take the chance."
In all, McGeechan has made seven changes to the side that lost 28-25 at Loftus Versfeld last weekend.
Injuries to Brian O'Driscoll and Jamie Roberts has forced McGeechan into naming a new centre partnership, with Tommy Bowe - wing for the first two Tests - moving infield alongside Riki Flutey, who makes his Test debut for the Lions.
Ugo Monye is recalled on the right wing, while Welsh wizard Shane Williams will look to end a disappointing tour on a high and replaces Luke Fitzgerald on the other wing.
In the back row, Martyn Williams takes over at openside from David Wallace, while Joe Worsley gets the nod at six ahead of England team-mate Tom Croft. Wallace and Croft drop down to the bench.
There are no changes at half-back, where Welsh duo Stephen Jones and Michael Phillips continue their impressive partnership, or in the second row, where Simon Shaw will once again pack down with skipper Paul O'Connell.
Ireland's Rob Kearney, who produced one of the great Lions performances at Loftus Versfeld, is retained at full-back.
"It is fair to say injuries have had an impact on the tour as you would expect," said McGeechan.
"However, the players coming into the starting XV are all talented internationals and are as keen as ever to turn the tables on the Springboks.
"Last Saturday we were minutes away from winning and that is a huge positive to take into the Third Test."
James Hook and John Hayes have been added to the replacements bench, where they join Alun-Wyn Jones, Ross Ford and Harry Ellis, all of whom provided cover for the second Test.
Wales' Hook takes over bench duties from Irish fly-half Ronan O'Gara, whose last-minute infringement in the second Test handed the Boks the chance to kick the winning penalty.
After two narrow losses the Lions will be determined to end the tour on a winning note and snap a seven-Test losing streak that goes back to 2001.
British and Irish Lions: 15-Rob Kearney, 14-Ugo Monye, 13-Tommy Bowe, 12-Riki Flutey, 11-Shane Williams, 10-Stephen Jones, 9-Mike Phillips, 8-Jamie Heaslip, 7-Martyn Williams, 6-Joe Worsley, 5-Paul O'Connell (captain), 4-Simon Shaw, 3-Phil Vickery, 2-Matthew Rees, 1-Andrew Sheridan.
Replacements: 16-Ross Ford, 17-John Hayes, 18-Alun-Wyn Jones, 19-David Wallace, 20-Tom Croft, 21-Harry Ellis, 22-James Hook.

I think the french are partial to "le boo" on occasion. Not sure about the kiwis. But its bad form right enough.

What is usually booo-ed is a perceived lack of effort. Rightly or wrongly......
On reading the comments below and not being inspired to join the debate, I was just reminded of something that occured a couple of years ago, or was it the last World Cup? (54 nil or something) I dont recall - too much weed.
The only time I have ever heard a team bing booooed by their own supporters took place as the English team left the field.. I have never witnessed such lack of sportsmanship in any sport. disgusted I vowed never to ever watch a live english match but it did tell me a lot about the people of that nation.
It is worse than sacrilligeous to boo your own team. Critisize, swear at, throw arms in dispair and grumble when your team throws it away then plead for changes with the team after the gamebut to boo your own team on the field shows absolute contempt for sportsmanship.
OPA!! THAT NEITHER TEAMS DESERVED TO WIN.
To the bickering nationalists who want to disband the lions, or select only players fron their own country to play. Cop on ladies and gentlemen. This is special stuff. Any time we play wales, scotland or especially England, Im hoping we can knock lumps out of them, but once every four years, and only for 6 weeks, we get a chance to support their best players as part of our team, to cheer their skill without hoping they get flattened by an irishman immediately.
It brings us all together for a few weeks. Its a testament to all involved that they can put their differences aside and forge such a strong bond in so short a time, and they really are something to be proud of.
It belittles the concept to read such narrow minded muck. Get behind your team.
Whatever happenned to the civility and cameraderie of Rugby Union. It is what set us apart from all other sports. Hard, physical contact on the field but mutual respect and comradeship off the field, with no recriminations whatsoever. In over 500 games of senior rugby I witnessed only two off the field acts that would be regarded as unacceptable behaviour. But, nowadays the games are increasingly being watched by people who have never actually played the game and experienced that unique on field/off field experience and those people show no respect to the game and its traditions. How long before supporters start to fight with each other. We are on the precipice of a dangerous slope and we must all pull together to make sure we do not start the irreversable slide into the abyss. Rugby officials have a responsibility to encourage players, fans and particularly coaches to set an example of very high propotion.
We didn't win in New Zealand and there were 26 English in Woodward's squad - what does that say?
i really hope the lions win on Saturday and prove you lot wrong!!!
of course you think that opa!! theres english in the squad!! Get a grip we didnt win the last 2 tests and there were very little english in there!! what does that say about your presious welsh & irish plyers!!!
opa01_ 2000 - YOU ARE reading my mind and the "moron" who had the cheek to call me a "small minded idiot" clearly lives in some nostalgic dreamworld instead of the real world. how come you and i can see thsi deliberate bias on a "perpetual" basis because the brits rile the air waves and that @#$% cannot - selective hearing ? ! let the bloody english and welsh haven their own lions , personally i would prefer to see my country,s team touring under their own name and at full strength instead of the second string ireland had to make do with this year - even though they did very well . irekand to tour australia, new zealand and argentina year on year ignoring the boks until they learn to rely soley on skill insted of barbarism !

hey gimps..ireland have won every major tourament in the northern hemisphere.,brian o driscoil will get world player of the year and will go down in history as the best centre to ever play the game
Has to be the worst Lions selection ever. What about Sheridan's punch to the goolies on Saturday - no mention from the English media? Is this not equally as heinous as Burger's gouging?
I'm afraid Geech has caved in to the Sky/Sun/Murdoch tripe. Before the first test The Times "respected journalist" Stephen Jones had Vickery down as his Captain, dropping O'Connell.
Another "respected journalist" was caught on-air quoting "how did we end up with 7 potato chompers in our Test team?"
Lots of press about O'Gara's penalty which was horrendous but nothing about Shaw's high tackle penalty leading directly to the final try. A bit of balance was needed.
A press conference was interviewing Rob Kearney on his debut last week with about 20 journalists present but when Simon Shaw entered the room they all deserted Kearney in mid-sentence and flocked around Shaw for his "words of wisdom".
So my view is it is now high time to end the Lions fiasco. While the English media dictates selection, reporting etc no players from any other nation will receive any credit.
What a waste of time. All the Celtic nations could do with a rest and be ready for the Six Nations in the Spring.

He does seem to be fixated on homosexuality....
I think mike is looking for a boyfriend but is too scared to admit it!!
all rugby players and fans are shirt lifters
James, with a name like Sugrue you must be from Kerry.Quit letting your country down and stop the anti english bile.I hope we're not related.
Actually, I'll correct myself slightly. I DO give a monkey's where the players come from. I love the fact that this one's English, that one's Irish, that the man that got the better of the Beast happened to be Welsh (and no, I'm not Welsh, in case that's what you're thinking); that the most exciting centre partnership I've seen in a long time was Welsh/Irish. And the thing was: they were all of them playing for me.
speak for yourself, PW, you small-minded idiot. And the same goes for a number of people posting on this board. The great thing about the Lions is that it rises way way above tribalism. Or would, if people would just take half a second to stand outside their own little worlds and think what being a Lion actually means. Ask any of the players how precious that shirt is. BOD, Jamie Roberts, Shaw, Croft, Phillips, Kearney - I couldnt give a monkeys where they come from or what jersey they normally wear. Yes, even Rikki Flutey. So people might ask a question or two about the merits of POC or O'Gara. If they do, like as not it's about them as PLAYERS, not because they're Irish (granted some people do have that problem; just as sugruejames has a problem with anyone who isnt Irish; you cant do nothing for 'em). Two months ago, there was no squad, no team, just a bunch of players from four nations drawn together out of the air with a common goal, a bunch of talent and not much more. They've forged something. They came mighty close. Me, I'm proud of them.
sugruejames55 is who I mean
