Premier League - Chamakh lined up should Ade exit

Arsene Wenger is confident Emmanuel Adebayor will remain at Arsenal, but revealed he would consider Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh as a possible replacement.

The future of Togo striker Adebayor is yet to be resolved one way or another - with Milan continuing their interest following a public pursuit last summer before the 25-year-old agreed a new deal to stay at the Emirates Stadium.

Adebayor, however, has made it clear he would be happy to remain and lead the Gunners' challenge for honours despite a difficult season.

Wenger has no desire to sell the striker - who netted 30 goals during the 2007-08 campaign - as he prepares for his squad's return to training next week.

"If he does not want to stay, he will leave, but I think he will be still at Arsenal this season," Wenger told French radio station RMC.

However, should Adebayor move on, the Gunners boss could move for Moroccan international Chamakh. "Yes, but only in the event of a departure," he said of his interest in Chamakh.

  4. I would get rid of Adebayor reguardless. He's a one­ year wonder. Get rid of him while his stock is still­ decent. I'm not familiar with Chamakh, but Wenger­ must see something good in him. If Wenger feels that­ Chamakh can fit the system, then get him by all means.

  12. Get rid of Adebayor - Arsenal would get at least £25m­ for him and they could do a lot with that money. And­ if he does go then let him take Eboue with him (We can­ use Eboue as part of the package - buy one, get one­ free!!!). We need another defender, top class­ midfielder and a forward - Why hasnt Wenger shown­ interest in the dutch players "supposely"­ available from Real Madrid (Can spell their names, but­ yee know who I mean!!) They would be good additions to­ squad. Unless Wenger buys at least 2 more players then­ they will struggle to stay in top 4 with Man City­ buying and buying

  13. wenger should defo get rid of adebayor and get a­ excellent centre forward who can play alongside van­ persie on the left and arshavin on the right and cesc­ right behind them in support. and to comment to madrid­ buy strikers but with that they are probs going to be­ conceding fair few goals too why?, coz they dnt splash­ out on the best defenders too.

    I don't see how we (Arsenal) will compete next­ season. How can Madrid buy three world class players­ and Arsenal buy a f*****g central defender!! I think­ Arsene is a genius but it is time for someone else.
