Linvoy Primus will spend a 10th season at Portsmouth after agreeing a new one-year deal.

Primus, who arrived at Fratton Park on a free transfer in July 2000 and is the longest-serving member of the squad, will see his duties expanded to an ambassadorial and advisory role.

The 35-year-old defender will help guide emerging talent on the south coast.

"I'm going to be working with the younger players on and off the pitch," he told the club's official website. "I'm not going to be coaching them, I'm going to be more of an advisor, more of a mentor for them.

"I'm definitely going to finish my career here and then stay with the club when that finishes. In the two years that I haven't played for the first team, the club have stood by me and looked after me.

"They made sure my knee is fine and have given me an opportunity to play and also given me the chance to move into a new role."

  6. I don't know about Fratton Park, more like 'Jurassic Park'. We need some young blood not old timers. Don't get me wrong, Linvoy is a credit to the PL and to Pompey and I think it is great that the management have rewarded his loyalty and hard work. But having said that we need to bolster the squad with younger players, players that will give pompey the attacking, and exciting football that the fans deserve. We have let half of the squad go already. When will it end?

  7. A decent club honouring one of its longest serving players (who hardly plays) with one more year. Not something you regularly see in top flight football clubs.
