Premier League - Second City bid for Terry rejected

Eurosport - Fri, 03 Jul 17:53:00 2009

Chelsea have rejected a second offer from Manchester City for their captain John Terry.

FOOTBALL2008-09 Premier League Chelsea captain John Terry - 0

The size of the offer made by City was not revealed in a statement from the Blues, however, the south-west London club sought to end any further interest saying they would "not entertain any conversation on the subject".

The news comes as the latest rebuff for City, who have already had a bid to sign Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o knocked back this summer. City made an offer for the 28-year-old defender last season when they encountered similar short shrift from the Blues, who this morning reiterated the England captain's desire to stay at Stamford Bridge.

"We can confirm we have completely rejected an offer from Manchester City for John Terry," a statement on the club's website read.

"It was made clear to City, for a second time following an approach last season, that we would not entertain any conversation on the subject. At the time John also reiterated his total commitment to Chelsea.

"We would like to make it clear, and will not do so again, that John is not for sale."

  1. People, please stop living in the past!! Man City may be 8th in the all time successful clubs list but what the f**k have you done in recent years? Chelsea we're playing in the champions league when Uncle ken was in charge. Do you not remember the Arsenal unbeaten run? We came second to them with a points tally that would have won the premiership the previous six seasons. Man City will capitulate. These new owners will soon see they're wasting their money when in two seasons time they have nothing to show for their multi million pound wage bill except for maybe the Carling Cup if you're lucky. Robinho looks like he's already regretting his choice to join them. Coming out and slagging his team mates off for not trying. All these supposed big signings are going to want to play all the time. Look at what happened to Ranieri, you can't please all the players all the time and when you have high priced ego's like Robinho and Eto (if he comes) and all the other Big names they're being linked with there's gonna be trouble when Hughes tries to juggle and tinker with the sqaud.

  6. the sheer greed may have gone to his head he has not came out yet to say he wants to stay maybe he's on holiday but he must have a p.a to deny these reports but money talks if he goes he might get to play in the champs league in about 3 years time i do think he thinks he's bigger then the club like fergie has proved at man u no player is... the king is dead long live the king who ever that may be

  9. Not getting into a slanging match but until Chelsea and Abramovich combined City had won more trophies than Chelsea and are still the 8th most succesful club in English football!
Tes it has been 33 years since we won what is classed as a major trophy, which is long before most of you children were born so do your homework and get back to school on Monday!

  10. this story first came to light in january when scolari was still in charge a friend of mine who plays a lot of golf with chelsea old boy kevin hitchcock told me city offered terry 250k a week but he wanted 300k but city said no it was not untill hiddink came that terry had a change of heart but it is so ironic that city are now ready to give into his demands i have supported chelsea since 1974 i have seen players come and go and saw the break up of a very good young side put together buy john neal that was ruined by john hollins in the mid 80's so if john terry follows the greedy gravy train then so be it there is always someone else to take your place the wealth these players have is totally disgusting

  11. If John Terry doesnt want to come then that's his (and Chelsea's)decision but looking at the way we played last season then add a couple of good strikers up front and Man City will be a match for anyone in the league. With a solid fan base proved despite years of uncertainty and the most sound finances looking forward, to keep good players coming, then anyone not giving us serious consideration could look back in a few years with a few regrets. we cannot wait for the season to begin.

  14. No one from any of the top teams will want to play for Man City until they actually astablish them selves. Man City need to do what chelsea did when there money same Chelsea signed Michael Ballack on a free transfer. Ashley Cole part exchange for William Gallas. Jon Obi Mikel was a good player playing for a poor team so of course if chelsea offer 12million to Lyn Oslo then they will take it because that is alot of money for them. So they should be trying to sign the good people from the poor teams they have already shown signs of that by buying Gareth Barry knowing that they won't do aswell next season with out Martin Laursen he chose a good decision. They should try and buy Tuncay Sanli, Mathew Upson and Gary Cahill
