Premier League - Second City bid for Terry rejected

Eurosport - Fri, 03 Jul 17:53:00 2009

Chelsea have rejected a second offer from Manchester City for their captain John Terry.

FOOTBALL2008-09 Premier League Chelsea captain John Terry - 0

The size of the offer made by City was not revealed in a statement from the Blues, however, the south-west London club sought to end any further interest saying they would "not entertain any conversation on the subject".

The news comes as the latest rebuff for City, who have already had a bid to sign Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o knocked back this summer. City made an offer for the 28-year-old defender last season when they encountered similar short shrift from the Blues, who this morning reiterated the England captain's desire to stay at Stamford Bridge.

"We can confirm we have completely rejected an offer from Manchester City for John Terry," a statement on the club's website read.

"It was made clear to City, for a second time following an approach last season, that we would not entertain any conversation on the subject. At the time John also reiterated his total commitment to Chelsea.

"We would like to make it clear, and will not do so again, that John is not for sale."

City know exactly what they are doing here with John Terry - basically City know that Terry is 'bored' at Chelsea and needs a new challenge to avoid becoming stale. He will not be Chelsea captain this season and can see that only City have the resources over the next few seasons to win the Champions League. He knows Chelsea have had their time , and as is the cycle of football , Chelsea and Arsenal will fail next season to make the top 4. Terry knows this , and City are testing his resolve. With Mourinho in the wings to take over in 12 months he knows City would be perfect , professionally and personally

    69. Errr Lampard is not Chelsea. He's west ham and turned his back on them to sign for chelsea. Not the same as shearer a geordie for the mags and gerrard a scouser at liverpool. Terry is an average defender with a big mouth and he's an arrogant ****. Good riddance owen, he'll not be missed by us, no heart, no fight when needed, no shame. We'll be back. Howay the lads!

  9. JT is Chelsea Blue through and through - sorry City but it's not gonna happen. How about trying to sign the Williams sisters, with them powering your midfield you might have a chance of winning something. All the best MCFC for the coming season especially against ManUre.

  14. I think man city have alot to prove before they can buy certain players..no disrespct to city fans but certain players would not dream of playing in city, because city havent proven anything to them yet..they need to build a proper team, a team that can win trophies and compete on the big stages, thats the problem.. i wouldnt say man city are a rubbish team.. have some good players like ireland.. and robinho when he feels like playing... but thats not enough.. not with certain players expectations.

Money is not really enough at the moment... use that money usefully and build a decent trophy winning side, not try a fast move by trying to buy kaka, ronaldinho, eto and the likes, i dont think thats the way.. thats a very short term thinking mentality that the owners are obviously promoting.

  20. comment 47, mexes? the same mexes that conceded 7 goals against utd? the same player who gets sent off a few times a season because he lacks the pace that most central defenders in the prem have? mexes isn't a good option mate! world football have some very good defenders but he is not one of them!
