Premier League - Second City bid for Terry rejected

Eurosport - Fri, 03 Jul 17:53:00 2009

Chelsea have rejected a second offer from Manchester City for their captain John Terry.

FOOTBALL2008-09 Premier League Chelsea captain John Terry - 0

The size of the offer made by City was not revealed in a statement from the Blues, however, the south-west London club sought to end any further interest saying they would "not entertain any conversation on the subject".

The news comes as the latest rebuff for City, who have already had a bid to sign Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o knocked back this summer. City made an offer for the 28-year-old defender last season when they encountered similar short shrift from the Blues, who this morning reiterated the England captain's desire to stay at Stamford Bridge.

"We can confirm we have completely rejected an offer from Manchester City for John Terry," a statement on the club's website read.

"It was made clear to City, for a second time following an approach last season, that we would not entertain any conversation on the subject. At the time John also reiterated his total commitment to Chelsea.

"We would like to make it clear, and will not do so again, that John is not for sale."

  1. Man city's out of their mind, Terry is Chelsea all the way through, him and Lampard ARE Chelsea, like Gerrard is to Liverpool, Shearer was to Newcastle. No club can sell players of this quality. Hey least they tried.....TWICE!!

  2. Either (a) Sheik Mansour doesn't understand football and cannnot comprehend why he cannot buy whoever he wants, despite warnings to the contrary from hughes (if he has any involvement as Mansour has repeatedly made public his desire to sign Terry).

    OR

    (b) John Terry has had his head turned by City and has been encouraged by Bridge, Barry, SWP and fancies doubling his shabby £100k/week wages. Seems strange that City would go back in for him after the Kaka fiasco.

I think it'd take £50m+ to even tempt Chelsea and he surely fancies one last crack at the Prem/Champs Lge with Chelsea under Ancelotti before even considering a move.

    Never say never, though.

tevez wasnt that good of a player, over rated argie. took too many chances to score and never scored enough in premiership. at least owen is a proven goal score when fit.

as for ronaldo, he has been wanted to leave manu for years. just fergie didnt want to sell him to anyone untilstupod money was being offered and u could tell last season that ronaldo was not at his best.

i am sure ronaldo will be a flop next season,

  5. Comment 48! Well this is what im talking about when utd fans bang on about stuff because their eyes are full of fergy s**t!!! 3 champions league finals you have been to under fergy! the first you had to come back in the last min after being totally outplayed and outclassed! the second was against chelsea! if terry hadn't have slipped you would have been beaten again! also outplayed during the 90 mins! and as for barca! you'll have to show me a clip of when you outplayed them? cos when i watched it all i saw was messi, xavi, inesta and eto taking you guys appart! anderson, park, ronaldo, rooney, giggs (who is a good player but well past his best!) scholes etc didn't have an answer for them and as for the great Rio "i would have stopped maradona in the 86 world cup" Ferdenand! A touch of reality! if you can't stop messi scoring with a header from 8 yards out! (the guy is about 5ft6) how the hell would you have stopped maradona in full flight? you wouldn't! he would have done to you what he did to all the other england players!!!

As for the league! chelsea have been in transition! liverpool have been building slowly and arsenal always seem to be two years away from having a great side? this year will be different! two players who have scored 65 goals for you last two seasons have gone! not only that but owen! ha ha ha... i couldnt have made it up! no one wants to come to you! what strength have you added? i really don't know what you mean by that? if fergy plays the youngsters (who are they? gibson? nani? rafeal?) face facts mate! utd have had there time! and i for one can't wait to see fergy squerm! what a to**er

Hey lemon you are so funny. How can Chelsea be the best team in Europe when they can only finish third in their domestic league. The premiership is so easy for Man Utd now that most games they use to blood youngsters while their stars rest and we still win it with ease. The nightmare for you all now is that Man Utd have strengthened their squad this season so who can stop us now. As for the champions league final every fan who knows anything about football will recognise the superior football played by Man Utd while Barcelona got lucky.

From elrosso, on Fri 3 Jul 11:52AM
  20. Can't believe City would do this without a nudge by Chelsea. Besides there's lot of good defenders around, how about Mexes ? Surely Hughes can look further a field or does he lack world football knowledge ?
