Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan is eager to commit his long-term future to the club.
Bannan has one year remaining of his current deal and is highly regarded by boss Martin O'Neill, but has been linked with a move to Wigan. He made his debut in the UEFA Cup clash in Hamburg in December and gained valuable experience during a loan spell with Derby.
Villa are understood to be lining up a new deal for the 19-year-old Academy product. The Scot said: "I've got a year left of my current contract so hopefully I've done enough to prove to the manager that I've earned a new contract."
He added: "It's up to him, but if I get one I'll sign it straight away because I love this club. They've been brilliant for me since I've been here."
Bannan admitted O'Neill's willingness to give youth a chance is a big factor in his desire to remain with Villa.
He said: "The aim now is to push on even further next season. It's been hard to break through, because of how well the team has done recently.
"But the manager has shown he is ready to give young players a chance if they're good enough."

Who?
no2 " we want players with commitment" that aint happened since the days of ron saunders, no villa players have played for villa with commitment, they play for money, or to use villa as a stepping stone to a big club, but they never play for villa, MON cant handle big names, all the best players are been taken, so its not a matter of right players, remember the early bird catches the worm, the only worm MON is gonna get is the one from harewood the donkey he cant even give away. noone to replace mellberg, laursen, barry,
ashley young looking to go if someone pays 26million for him, wheres the depth of squad you need nowadays to win silverware

He must be c(rap) then 'cause nobody else wants to stay.
Birmingham City will finish higher than them next season.
m.o.n. is not rushing in to buy just for the sake of it, surely he is waiting for the right players to be available, we don't want just anyone at Villa, we want players with commitment, and also it would help if they could play a bit.so lets not panic yet, m.o.n. knows better than us that we need to strengthen the squad, his job is on the line.
when are villa going to buy some more players to replace the ones that have left the club if they dont get fresh players in they will be a mid table team again and nothing will change get some decent players in and villa might change the top of the table come in villa get it right this season
