Bordeaux star in Wenger's thoughts

Arsene Wenger is confident Emmanuel Adebayor will remain at Arsenal, but revealed he would consider Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh as a possible replacement.

The future of Togo striker Adebayor is yet to be resolved one way or another - with AC Milan continuing their interest following a public pursuit last summer before the 25-year-old agreed a new deal to stay at the Emirates Stadium.

Adebayor, however, has made it clear he would be happy to remain and lead the Gunners' challenge for honours despite a difficult season.

Wenger has no desire to sell the striker - who netted 30 goals during the 2007-08 campaign - as he prepares for his squad's return to training next week.

"If he does not want to stay, he will leave, but I think he will be still at Arsenal this season," Wenger told French radio station RMC.

However, should Adebayor move on, the Gunners boss could move for Moroccan international Chamakh. "Yes, but only in the event of a departure," he said of his interest in Chamakh.

  2. Arsene should sign him, he should go under the assumption that as in previous years arsenal will once again be plauged with injuries....

  3. ‘Ade’ enjoyed his best season as a professional footballer in 2007/8. He hit 30 goals in 48 appearances and carried the attack while Robin van Persie and Eduardo were injured.

  4. Oh, by the way there is also the tried but not fully tested Carlos Vela. But Arsenal would still not have enough options without Adebayor.

  5. He should buy Chamakh and still keep Ade. We need more options in our striking force. Picture this: no Adebayor. Two dependable strikers: RVP and Eduardo. RVP gets injured. Eduardo gets injured. We are only left with Bendtner and the unknown quantity - Chamakh. On top of buying Chamakh, he should also buy another strong defender and a good central or defensive mid-fielder.

  7. Ade is good. You know a draught of goals is not a problem of the striking force but rather a combination of the midfield backed by strong defence. Therefore i think we should concetrate in the defence than selling off our potential players like Ade and the like. Why do you think there are some strong teams that need Abe if you say that he is weak?

  8. The depth of the team is important. Wenger should act like other managers in the top 4. Look at Manchester . Ferg can align two lethal teams which can play two different SPL teams the same day. And the same id for LFC or Chelsea.

  10. Its a good idea, but are we going to wait for Ade to go and then buy Chamakh? Is the former also just waiting for this to come over?

  11. Thats a good buy for Arsenal Marouane Chamakh and arshavin would be a hell of a combination with Fabregas playing well the three would cause enough trouble... But (1) adebayor would have to go, (2) Wenger would need to spend and (3) They need a great Defensive midfielder(composed and can break up plays well) to even think about competing properly this season.. not that as a man u fan i want them to be so good they give us problems by the way.. but thats what they honestly need. (you will win nothing with those kids they have currently).
