Bulls forced to close end

Fri 03 Jul, 04:21 PM

Hereford will see the capacity of their Edgar Street ground reduced to around 5,000 after the Blackfriars End failed a safety inspection.

The stand, which is behind a goal and usually houses sections for both home and away supporters, will now be closed for the forthcoming campaign with fans who have already purchased season tickets set to be contacted in regard to alternative arrangements.

The other areas of the ground all passed the health and safety tests although maintenance work will need to be carried out on the Len Weston terraced side, which will reduce capacity.

There is also some concern about the Meadow End with current legislation stating no-one is allowed to stand on the flat area, something the club are looking to address.

Hereford are due to have meetings with various parties, including the Richardsons who are tenants, in the near future to discuss possible developments at the Blackfriars End.

Chairman and director of football Graham Turner told the club's official website: "We have initially enquired to the Football Foundation as to the availability of funds towards redevelopment and I'm waiting for their technical advisor to get back to me. It might be a possibility but that's very much only at the initial stages."

  1. i agree the stadium has been apart of football history (FA giant Killers) but the two ends behind the goals are in desprate need of modernisation, but to do this the support needs to be higher at all times not only when the bulls are going for promotion better attendances more money into the club = better players higher standard of football will follow. So come on Bulls fans get behind your team and lets make edgar street great again

  2. Edgar Street has seen so many epic battles, the Newcastle United match being just one of them, but the stadium is old and both ends need to be knocked down and redesigned. A Two Tier all seater stand at each end holding around 2500-3000 fans making the stadium a roughly 10,000 all seater stadium with up to date faciliites might bring Hereford United into the new Millenium and a return to crowds of at least up to 5000 for every match instead of the current 2000-3000.
