Scott McDonald has been named Celtic captain - but only for their pre-season match in his native Australia.
The Australia striker will lead out the Hoops in their clash against Brisbane Roar on July 12.
Club captain Stephen McManus will miss the trip with a knee injury, allowing McDonald to wear the armband.
"I am absolutely delighted," the former Motherwell player told www.celticfc.net. "As a life-long Celtic supporter, I realise just how great an honour it is to be given the captaincy for this match."
"I'd like to thank the manager for this opportunity. My family will be among the thousands of supporters who are all looking forward to the club's visit and it will, personally, be a real honour to lead the team out on this rare trip to Australia."
Tony Mowbray's first match as Celtic manager will have an added touch of spice as Roar could field former Rangers trio Craig Moore, Charlie Miller and Bob Malcolm in their team.
Mowbray said: "We obviously realise how important a trip this is for the football club as a whole and it's a fantastic opportunity for us to play in front of our supporters in Australia.
"They support the team faithfully, but don't get the opportunity to see us play very often and we realise how much this visit means to them.
"We thought it would be fitting that an Australian-born Celtic player leads the team out in Brisbane and we are all looking forward to the match. We hope that the supporters enjoy the occasion."

15. Boyd's first. Saturday 5th of may 2007. 34th minute strike. Assisted by Nacho Novo. The match ended 2-0 to Rangers.
Any questions?
Ginger...The gers fans have not much to worry about...no money, releasing players, not buying players...21.7 million and counting in debt, @#$%, boring football etc etc etc

7,
I'll wager a years salary that Celtic will make it into Europe. I firmly belive the second place finish in the SPL was enough to give them a Euro spot.
Lesson for tomorrow......... don't post on Crack.

Pt11...I agree to a point, however, winning with style is a better option........
point 10, does it matter who scores the goals? as long as you win it doesnt matter who scores for you. FACT.

WE R THE PEOPLE!
good move by nobray in the pr stakes as far as oz goes, but i bet he does not get any of the money generated by the pre-season games

Enjoy the armband, Skippy! If you do a good job, maybe Mogga will let you wear it more often!! One word of advice though... don't be quite so petulant this season!! If the manager substitutes you, accept it with good grace, and don't throw a wobbly!!
