Celtic manager Tony Mowbray has assured his new players he will give them time to prove themselves before moving anyone on.
The former West Brom boss hopes to persuade Nancy striker Marc-Antoine Fortune to choose Celtic, after confirming that Paul Hartley and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink would not be offered new contracts
"We are all working very, very hard to make these things happen," Mowbray said.
He added: "It's never easy. Players are just coming back from holiday, it's the same with managers and coaches.
"We have made a lot of calls and a lot of contact and a lot of people have spoken to me as well.
"As I say to them, I want to look at the players. I don't want on day one to say yes, he can go out.
"I need to see them and see what their characters are. We have put markers down, we are further advanced with some potential signings than we are with others.
"That's why you have got to have options, it's no good putting all your eggs in one basket."
Mowbray is carefully building up his personal relationships with his new players in an attempt to elicit their peak performances.
He added: "How do they react to a bit of cajoling? They are human beings and the best way to get the best out of them is to know which buttons to push when the going gets tough."

Of course the Gers are champs no-one is denying that, just can't figure out some of your nonsensical ramblings.
#39 my point is,if you need it spelling out for you, is rangers are champions, regardless, celtic couldnt win a raffle, blah, blah, blah
Wow. Did some wee blood vessel pop in your head before you wrote that?
Not really sure what yer point is caller. Next!!!!!!!
#37 & who do you have signed on that will make a difference????you talk big for a wee man,7 points of a lead last seasonn & you still couldnt win the title, whats your excuse???? we were worse than you??? the spl were against you????? grow up you pleb
If you think the footy was better in that cup run (greater acheivement no arguments there) than the stuff under PLG well there's not much hope for you then.
Larsson scored more Uefa cup goals in the run to Seville than the entire Gers team did en route to Manchester.
Just gonna have to agree to differ ma man.
.......that was the season before last!
Paul G, #29, Lennon came in and we WON the league ya thick idiot. He took over when Tommy stepped down due to illness.
#33 if PLG played better football, how come wattie got us to a euro cup final then????? answers on a postcard to the usual address, you plank
My point...... for those who can't do joined up thinking..........was that the European footy under PLG was actually quite decent.
Capiche?
george, whats your point??? you actually got 1????
Why did celtic get rid of hartley. I cant remember him having a bad game compared the other useless lot. Another point. I was watching murray on the tennis the day and couldnt believe how easy it is and quick to us line technology. Why the h.e.l.l. is this not being used if its so easy to use. The computer replay is within 20 sec.

Point 21, lennon came in and you lost the league. Result
26, The European stuff was.
Any of you bhoys seen the new away kit yet? (Not the white one!) Well smart!
#21 LOL!!!! FOOTBALL BETTER UNDER PLG LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you not a rangers fan then
I ain't in the least bit concerned about big Jan leaving. The guy was too slow. But I'm sorry to see Hartley go. Bear, your right, he was becoming a bit part player through last season but when he came on he always gave 100% and would never disappoint. The man played for his shirt and thats rare in any team nowadays! All the best Hartley. We salute you! HAIL HAIL
Hartley was becoming a bit parrtplayer, even under GS. JvH is injury prone and single paced. Remember the changes in Bobby Petta under MoN? Watch Donatti, he'll be given a chance. Donatti is far too good a player to languish in the subs, he will be given a real chance. I don't think that he fitted into GS game plan simple as that. When any new manager comes into any team he has to assess what he has and Donatti is an under utilised asset.
I agree that we should have signed Fletcher but we didn't and sh it happens. Lennon's input will be very limited as he was brought in to instill some fight in the players and to motivate, not to manage. We are still crying out for two centre backs and a pacy left back.
My heart wouldn't break if Boruc moved on either, we should have put him up for sale when he was in demand and raise some decent transfer money.
At least I'm not a Motherwell fan...
