Hodgson hopeful on Johnson deal

Sun 03 Aug, 11:45 AM

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson remains hopeful the Cottagers will be able to conclude a deal to sign Everton striker Andy Johnson.A fee has been agreed with the Toffees for Johnson, although Fulham are renegotiating the terms of payment due to an old knee injury.

Hodgson has confirmed talks remain ongoing, but he has not spoken with Fulham officials to ascertain the latest situation.

"I think the situation is still ongoing. The transfer negotiations are still going on as far as I know," Hodgson told Sky Sports News.

"I haven't spoken to the chief executive today (Saturday) so I can't tell you more than that. He's the one negotiating with Everton."

When asked if Johnson will sign for Fulham this summer, Hodgson replied: "I think so. I've no reason to believe he won't."

Johnson has won eight caps for England and Hodgson believes the striker will bring undoubted quality to Craven Cottage.

"Andy Johnson is a player with great quality. Wherever he's been he's done very, very well," Hodgson added.

"He'll give us balance up front that we're looking for."

  1. Fulham are stalling as they cannot afford Andy Johnson give them a 24hr Deadline and tell Johnson he will have to report for training the Fulham Holiday is over.Fulham where greedy and spent their money on a signing and wonder how they can persuade Everton to reduce the Price and yet they and everyone knows Andy had an old Knee injury. So whats the Problem either he goes elsewhere for not less than £13million or he returns and sees out his contract.

  2. Fulham spent their money on the last big signing thats the real reason for digging the old injury casenotes out by Mr fayeds Consultant. Wigan may give him another offer rather than an occasional game at Everton.

  3. I will be really sad to see AJ leave us, he never gives up, although he has not a great 2007-2008 season, I thought he would do well this season for us.
I know he has family problems, but it would feel really strange seeing him in a Fulham shirt!

Plus he will not play in Europe if he goes to Fulham
