Alan Pardew had some harsh words for Kelly Youga during Charlton's 1-0 defeat to Athletic Bilbao and told him he was "letting the fans down".A first-half strike from former Spain international Joseba Etxeberria secured La Liga outfit Bilbao a narrow win in Charlton's final pre-season friendly and Pardew revealed his frustration at his French full-back.

Pardew said: "My one disappointment was Kelly Youga. He's been one of our best players so far this pre-season and at half-time I told him he was letting the fans down.

"But in some ways there is a blessing from that as he won't play that badly against Swansea City."

Pardew added: "They had a little bit more nous all over the pitch and we were a little bit naive.

"It was a real tough test, but I told the lads that they won't meet many better sides than that this season, unless they draw a Premier League team in a cup competition."
