Sun 03 Aug, 04:45 PM

St Johnstone manager Derek McInnes played down an opening-day bust-up with his Livingston counterpart Roberto Landi after Saints' 2-0 win.Landi refused to shake hands with McInnes after Saturday's Scottish First Division game, claiming that the former Rangers and Dundee United midfielder had swore at him after Paul Sheerin's spot-kick had added to Peter McDonald's opener.

But McInnes said: "It's absolutely not true. We shook hands and had a coffee in my office.

"I don't want to get involved but I have nothing to apologise about.

"He apologised to me for not shaking my hand at the end of the game.

"I don't want this to overshadow a good win."

Dundee also got off to a good start with a 2-1 win away at Ross County, thanks to a penalty from Mickael Antoine-Curier and an Eric Paton header.

Partick Thistle battled to a narrow 1-0 win over Dunfermline at Firhill thanks to a late strike by substitute Stephen McKeown.

UEFA Cup representatives Queen of the South were held to a goalless draw at home by Airdrie United.

In the Scottish Second Division, newly-promoted Arbroath went top with a convincing 4-1 win over Alloa at Gayfield.

Alan Rattray, Barry Sellars, Bryan Scott and Andy Reilly netted for the home side with Andrew Ferguson scoring a consolation for Wasps.

Red Lichties boss John McGlashan accepted a long title race had only begun.

"We can't go overboard," he said.

"It's going to be a long, hard season for us.

"However, nobody in this league will underestimate us after this result."

Stranraer boss Derek Ferguson was raging as his side lost a two-goal lead to draw with Queen's Park at Hampden.

Ferguson was sent to the stand by referee John McKendrick for protesting about Alex White's sending off on the half-hour mark with Stranraer leading through goals from Gregory Tade and Martin McBride.

The Spiders fought back with goals from Robert Dunn and Paul Cairney, the latter coming from the spot with eight minutes left.

Ferguson would only say afterwards: "I am very proud of my boys. You saw it out there today but I don't want to talk about it."

In the Scottish Third Division, Annan Athletic's historic first game as an SFL club ended in triumph as the south of Scotland side romped to a 4-1 win at Cowdenbeath.

Annan were voted into the league after the demise of Gretna, and a double from Mike Jack and strikes from Steve Archibald and Darren Johnstone made it a perfect start for boss Harry Cairney.

"We know it will not be like this every week, but we are certainly going to enjoy our first win in the Scottish Football League," Cairney said.

"It was a fantastic display and I'm pleased for everyone at the club."

Stenhousemuir also got off to an impressive start as a double by debutant Andy Brand and a Stevie Hampshire strike gave the Warriors a 3-0 win over Elgin.

Brand, however, blew his chance of a hat-trick when he missed a penalty.

Forfar recorded their first away league win in over two years with a 3-1 victory at Albion Rovers.
