Taylor sets promotion target

Sun 03 Aug, 06:00 PM

Wycombe boss Peter Taylor remains confident his side can launch a promotion push this season, despite losing 2-1 to Southend on Saturday. The Chairboys were behind after just two minutes after Adam Barrett headed past the outreaching arms of goalkeeper Jamie Young, while veteran striker Paul Furlong doubled the Shrimpers lead just five minutes later.

Brazilian striker Mago Silva Viera gave the home fans some hope on the hour mark after he coolly slotted the ball into the back of the net but despite pressing hard in the last 30 minutes Taylor's men could not find an equaliser.

"Every club is looking for the same thing but I'm positive about it. I expect players to want to play at the highest level and I expect managers to do the same," Taylor said.

"The four teams that have come down look strong but of course two teams could be having points deducted, which will restrict them.

"We just have to concentrate on what we are doing and wait to see who starts well. Not many teams that have really bad starts push on from there. You have to try to get promotion then see what you can do in the next division."
