MONTREAL (AFP) - Unseeded Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova seeks to continue her giant killer form after booking a berth in the WTA Rogers Cup final on Saturday.
Cibulkova, who upset world No. 2 Jelena Jankovic in earlier rounds, beat 10th-seeded Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, in a rain-hit semi-final Saturday at Uniprix Stadium.
She next faces Russia's Dinara Safina who punched her ticket to Sunday's final by beating Victoria Azarenka of Belarus 6-0, 2-6, 6-3.
Besides shocking Jankovic, Cibulkova beat sixth-ranked Elena Dementieva and No. 12 seed Nadia Petrova en route to the semis.
In her only other final appearance this year, Cibulkova lost to Russian Maria Sharapova at the Amelia Island tournament.
Safina, who is enjoying one of the most productive runs of her career, needed one hour, 45 minutes to beat 11th seeded Azarenka, who turned 19 on Thursday.
Safina won six of eight break point chances and made 58 percent of her first serves.
Safina is the younger sister of former ATP No. 1 Marat Safin, but the Russian has succeeded in creating her own name and eventually could find herself atop the WTA rankings.
She has 26 wins and just three losses in the past three months. During that stretch she defeated nine players ranked in the top 10.
The 22-year-old won her second title in the last five events played a week ago in Los Angeles. She will be appearing in her fifth championship match in six events.
