Wenger Keeping Senderos

Sun 03 Aug, 10:09 PM

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has rejected reports linking Philippe Senderos with a move to Newcastle.

Weekend reports suggested Newcastle were lining up a move for Senderos and could even offer Shay Given in a swap deal.

Wenger, though, has rubbished the rumours and says he has no plans to sell the Swiss international.

Asked if he had heard anything from Newcastle about Senderos, Wenger told Sky Sports News: "Nothing, no.

"I will not react because we want to keep our best players.

"We are going in to a season now and we have to have everybody focused on our targets.

"If we can bring in one more player we will do it, if not we will go with the squad we have, I am happy with that.

"We have to now continue to be focused on our targets."

Wenger also believes the best way for Emmanuel Adebayor to silence any doubters is by scoring goals.

Adebayor scored the winner in Sunday's 1-0 victory over Real Madrid to turn Saturday's jeers from the Juventus game to cheers.

The Togo international insists he is happy at Arsenal and is ready to sign a new long-term deal after a summer of speculation linking him with a move away from Emirates Stadium.

Wenger is confident all the rumours will soon be forgotten about if Adebayor continues to find the net for Arsenal this season.

"I feel Adebayor felt people questioned his commitment a little bit and the best answer always is to give on the pitch," added Wenger.

"You play well and show you are ready to fight for your shirt and your team. He does that. He is a man with character.

"You know how it is. If you score goals people forget quickly their frustration.

"You have to show it with performances in this job."

  3. I love Senderos, Wenger shouldn't sell him. His is an asset. A good cover at the back. He plays well with Gallas in the absence of Toure. If he is given regular start, he will meet the challenges. Good to keep him Wenger. Diaby should improve.

    Well done Arsene Wenger.

Reading the comments of previous supporters, you should not find it difficult to
    find an assistant team manager.

  6. We lost to Juve because we were messing about with new players, can we not do that for away matches. Send Senderos up North and buy a holding midfielder, then we can do the biz this year. All competitions are important, lets win them all.

  7. I think Senderos is a liability - he is too slow when changing direction, but the man surely without capability is Bendtner. What a complete waste of time.
Regarding losing to Hamburg, why worry, it was a credit to the youngsters and provided fascinating promise for the future.

  8. Whilst keeping Adebayor is a good decision in my eyes , keeping Senderos is not - he's an useless brickhead who committed crucial mistakes last season , and will propably still be consistent in that matter .

  10. "is ready to sign a new long-term deal "

He was already on a 'long term deal'
but chose to look elsewhere unless Arsenal coughed up more money.

His new 'long term deal' actually only extends his current contract by 1 year !

  13. I'm greatly relieved that we defeated Real Madrid but still not happy that we lost at home and also lost our Emirates Cup to Hamburg just because we fielded a totally-experimental side in the first half with Juventus.
The lesson to learn this Season is that every match nay every competition is important and we must always present a very competent side.
Prof. must please ensure this all the time as we have enough manpower to do this now unlike years before when we had a very lean bench.
We need silverware desperately this year and we cannot afford to be taking the usual risks.
