Barclays Premier League - Liverpool crushed

Eurosport - Mon, 03 Aug 09:05:00 2009

Liverpool slumped to a 3-0 friendly defeat by Espanyol in the first match played at the new Estadi Cornella El Prat.

FOOTBALL Ben Sahar celebrates scoring for Espanyol in their 3-0 friendly win over Liverpool. - 0

A double strike from former Chelsea forward Ben Sahar (pictured) and a first-half effort from Luis Garcia sealed the win, but Liverpool's Steven Gerrard twice hit the woodwork.

The clash was played in front of a noisy sell-out 40,000 crowd as the city of Barcelona marked the opening of the new stadium.

Reds skipper Gerrard had the first real opportunity with 19 minutes gone when he let fly with an effort from 30 yards.

The strike beat keeper Carlos Kameni but, frustratingly for Gerrard, the ball thudded on to the crossbar and away to safety.

Immediately afterwards the hosts launched a quick counter attack and took the lead through Garcia.

Former Celtic man Shunsuke Nakamura played a perfect through ball to Garcia, who held off young Spanish defender Mikel San Jose and fired past Pepe Reina.

Gerrard struck the woodwork for the second time in 10 minutes with a beautifully-curled free kick that came back off Kameni's left hand post after Fernando Torres was brought down.

Liverpool almost found themselves two goals behind after 41 minutes when Raul Tamudo timed his run to perfection and finished expertly past Reina, but the goal was incorrectly ruled out for offside.

The game became a little scrappy in the second half as both sides introduced a host of substitutions and it was not until Sahar came on that the game went beyond Liverpool's reach.

Philipp Degen should have done better as he stood appealing for offside while the Israel striker nipped in and tucked the ball past Reina with virtually his first touch of the game after 63 minutes.

Sahar then added the killer third goal three minutes from time when more hesitant defending from the visitors allowed him to slot the ball home unmarked from close range.

  8. Ah c'mon Dermot # 150 don't be a big wet girl's blouse.

I know it's a shame and you can't handle it. If I was a 'patsy' fan, I'd feel as if my footballing world had collapsed. Imagine if he'd just joined Real Madrid. I liked Stevie G too, he was untouchable, an example to us all, but now the gleaming talisman is no longer gleaming and 'patsy' fans have still got their heads stuck up the ar*se of 'Little Stevie'.

I've put up with it for five or six years from my 'patsy' mates every time Ronaldo misses a free kick or whinges or falls down or looks like he's going to cry and can you imagine what it's like when he falls on his ar*se trying one of his fancy dan tricks and both of us know, that was on a fairly regular basis. I know you know that I have a point. Five or six years ... and you can't take a few weeks! Now that's sad.

It's on a plate mate, all we've got to do is lap it up.

Can someone tell me if it was true about me asking for Phil Collins on me night out. I can’t remember. But hey look at this, the lyrics of ‘In The Air Tonight’. I was going to change the lyrics but hey there’s no need, just look at verses 2, 3 & 4.

I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord

Well if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand
I've seen your face before my friend, but I don't know if you know who I am
Well I was there and I saw what you did, I saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off that grin, I know where you've been
It's all been a pack of lies

And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord, oh Lord

Well I remember, I remember, don't worry, how could I ever forget
It's the first time, the last time we ever met
But I know the reason why you keep your silence UP, oh no you don't fool me
Well the hurt doesn't show, but the pain still grows
It's no stranger to you and me

I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh lord
Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, oh lord, oh lord, oh lord
Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord, oh lord

I can feel it in the air tonight, oh lord, oh lord, oh lord, oh lord
And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord, oh lord, oh lord
And I can feel it in the air ton

Well done mate, looks like you’ve uncovered the ‘missing’ verses of YNWA.

O Brothers and Sisters, do not rest,
Till all of us pass the test,
    For Salwat is ours,
    To be recited every hour.

    When the salwat poses,
It becomes the staff of Moses.
Let the baraka of Allah, Muhammad and Ali flow,
And see the true believers glow.

    Let love and consciousness grow,
And see negativity hit a new low,
    For darkness disappears,
    When the Sun appears.

When you walk through a storm
    Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
    Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark

    Walk on through the wind
    Walk on through the rain
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown
    Walk on, walk on
    With hope in your heart
    And you'll never walk alone
    You'll never walk alone
