Aston Villa are closing in on the signature of Leeds teenager Fabian Delph after the clubs agreed a fee.

FOOTBALL 2008-09 League One Leeds United Fabian Delph - 0

The Premier League side confirmed they had reached an agreement for the transfer of the talented England U21 midfielder.

A statement from Villa confirmed they had been given permission to talk to Delph, while Leeds revealed other top-flight clubs have had bids rejected.

Leeds confirmed the news on their website, and said: "Leeds United wishes to place on record our appreciation for the honourable manner in which Aston Villa have conducted their interest in the player.

"The club has resisted approaches from other FA Premier League clubs since agreeing terms with Aston Villa.

"Having given Villa our commitment to transfer the player (subject to a medical), we had no intention of going back."

  1. Mirror: Fabian Delph admits that Aston Villa's reputation for promoting young English talent made it an easy decision for him to move from Leeds - and turn his back on interest from Manchester City.

  4. Has any one noticed, Bates will not confirm the Fee, he is muttering about a percentage to Bradford and how well Villa conducted the approach etc, the question is though 'HOW MUCH?' and where will the money go??? Only a few weeks ago Bates said "We don't need the money" knew then we would sell him!!
Glad he went to Villa and not City though! he will at least get a game at Villa, cos if Elano can't get into the City side after that display for Brazil at the Emirates wot chance would Delph have??

  6. Though we knew it was going to happen, it still smarts for us Leeds fans. The only positive is that he's going to a club with a geat manager who will continue to help Delph progress into the star that we know he can be.
    Good luck to you Fabien.
As for you Bates, i hope this isn't just to be banked for you next legal costs! Show the fans some respect and buy us a replacement!

  10. Nice one MON!!! Capturing Whiz Kid Delph will allow us to rest some of the players during a long season ahead. Now we should shift our focus on acquiring a defensive stopper to help Cuellar/Davies. Friedel's strong tout ledge of Guzan has given us great depth at keeper. We need an imposing force at the back that will give our defense a true identity. Only when we can protect our goal with authority will we be able to start mumbling about Champions League. With the heart this team has shown we are just a couple more pieces to the puzzle away and we will be set to take on anyone.
Juve who????? Barry who?????? Up The Villa!!!!!!

  11. Good luck with Delph, Villa. I hope you do well next season. It would be great having a team breaking into the top 4 places. As for us Leeds Utd supporters, it's just one thing after another. We've been in freefall for several seasons now and it really does seem as if we are going to join Huddersfield, Forest, Wednesday and a few others in the list of giants who fell by the wayside never to recover. Sad, very sad.

  12. Well said tuscan! its makes me proud to be a villain to see the words 'honourable conduct' attributed to the club. All credit to MON for that, you don't see him doing a 'fat spanish waiter' and openly tapping up players thru the press. Have to be honest i don't know much about Delph but i like what i'm hearing! And to ian campbell, you don't make sense mate..... what you mean by 'hope goalkeeper don't go off boil'? Friedel is a good, experienced, safe pair of hands and as for Guzan, i think he's gonna be bloody good, watched him in our Peace Cup triumph and he was immense! I'm also pretty confident that no-one else will be leaving... however..... any other villains out there surprised/disappointed with the sale of Knight? I know the guy was gaffe-prone but surely he was worth keeping as a squad member? With the loss of Laursen, unless he brings in someone, i feel we are still too weak defensively!

  19. Thanks Leeds for conducting yourselves admirably as far as I can make out, far cry from the scouse t"£!s from last season. Good luck at promotion this season and I forgive you all for throwing bricks and bottles at me in 1982 at Elland Road.

  20. I was hoping Villa would be able to sign this lad , he will be world class.
A big thankyou to Leeds Utd for coaching this lad to the stage he is at allready he is a credit to Leeds coaching staff.

I do hope Leeds Utd start climbing back up the tables where they belong.
