Maxime Huscenot of Reunion Islands has won the ASP Grade-1 Sopelana Pro Junior, taking his first title of the year in challenging two-to-three foot waves. Nailing both the highest single-wave score and the highest heat-total of the event, Huscenot re-established his presence on the tour after taking time out to focus on school studies.
He was understandably stoked with his performance, saying The waves got back throughout the day and I am really happy to have made the best out of it. I was confident and tried a few tricks because I was feeling pretty good and the board I have been surfing for a couple of weeks now is just amazing.
Looking unstoppable throughout, Huscenot took first place in all his heats, dominating the event from the get go. The conditions were good and I wanted to enjoy my time as I had done for the whole event. I did not really land any of the few tricks I tried but the most important for me is to win this event after such a long time away from events in Europe. I couldnt hope for anything else for my return to Europe.
Huscenots domination was replicated in the womens event which saw Justine Dupont of France clean-up. Following her maiden ASP Pro Junior win, Dupont said, I was pretty pumped to do well here so to claim the event is just what I wanted most. I felt confident throughout the whole event and especially during the semi-finals. From there, I just put everything into it and won the thing.
