Gerrard plans Reds comeback

Sat, 03 Sep 13:47:43 2011

Steven Gerrard is eyeing the Barclays Premier League clash with Tottenham in a fortnight's time as a possible comeback date after more than five months on the sidelines following groin surgery.

The 31-year-old has been absent since mid-March but insists his troublesome groin is now completely fixed and "as strong as ever".

He said on Liverpool's official website: "I feel really good and I'm back kicking balls again - it's all positive, I should be back in full training with the team on Thursday or Friday of next week. I won't be involved against Stoke next Saturday but my plan is to hopefully be involved in the game against Tottenham."

He added: "It will be Kenny's decision when I come back in.

Liverpool play Spurs at White Hart Lane on September 18.

Gerrard added: "At the moment it's all good and I'm itching to get back. In fact it's worse than itching, my stomach is turning.

"It's been a tough five months for me since I had the surgery. It's been up and down emotionally and I've missed playing so much. I've had a good rest, I'm fired up and I'm raring to go again. I know I'm going to come back fitter, stronger and hungrier than ever."

Gerrard had initially been expected to be back for the start of the new campaign but he suffered a setback in July when he was admitted to hospital with an infection related to the groin injury.

He said: "Since coming out of hospital my rehab has gone really well. I'm really happy and positive again. My groin is as strong as it's ever been.

"My groin is tested when I'm working and the physios collect data. My groin scores now are better than before I even started feeling my groin. What I've done over the past four weeks tells me that's the case and I've got total confidence in it."

  1. Thanx Our Almighty God for bringing him back soon, who wouldn't wish to have him on his team. He's the best in this time, for us and very bad for you other guys. 2. UNITED RULE- Short memory you have...your teams talisman is a blue through and through yet left his beloved club when only 18 and then less than 16 months ago hands in his second career transfer request saying Man Utd lack the ambition to meet his own.......that was until Man Utd offered him almost double his salary......NOT "ok we'll buy Messi, or Iniesta or De Rossi" NO!!!!! ambition in his eyes is a doubled salary and Chris Smalling being signed........you plastic fans have not a single idea about football.

We are greatful to Cara for showing such a fine leadership in the absence of Stevie G and are sure that he will be his usual self along side Steven and will take the team forward.

  6. Does any of you remember that without the injured Gerrard and since KD took over Liverpool always win matches if they score the first goal of the match except against Sunderland - they drew. against Aston Villa and Spurs last liverpool didn't score the first goal - they lost both matches. We do need Gerrard and God speed.

  9. Before we get the usual abusive comments we see on here, I'd just like to say how great it will be to have Stevie G back leading the boys. Saying that though JC has done a brilliant job while Stevie G has been out of action. We're so lucky and blessed to have 2 such committed and great players that live and breath everything to do with Liverpool. can't wait to see you back playing Stevie, just know that's going to give us that extra edge to our play and make us more of a threat now that we've got a much more balanced team and squad.

I'm sure Stevie is looking forward to playing because now he won't have to be pulling or carrying the rest of the team along and he and Jamie being our only players playing their heart out for us. This is really exciting news for all us fans and come Christmas if we keep things going as they are, we should be able to start seeing how good this team and squad of players can really be. Great news, things at Liverpool are slowly but surely looking up and getting better each day, what a difference a year make hey. last year this time many of us were walking around with long faces and crying in our Beers. Now life is good and we are starting to see good things at Liverpool both off and one the pitch, "come on the Pool Y.N.W.A."
