Goal of the week: Towering Torres

Eurosport - Fri, 02 Oct 17:42:00 2009

Fernando Torres lit up Anfield with his hat-trick last weekend and the Spaniard's sizzling third effort against Hull has been voted goal of the week by Eurosport-Yahoo! readers.

Torres scored two goals before the break to put Hull on the back foot, but dealt the knockout blow moments after the break with a stunner. The forward took a ball in his stride and whizzed away from Andy Dawson before slamming a shot beyond Boaz Myhill.

The effort earned Torres 4,661 votes well ahead of Robin van Persie who polled 24 per cent for his fine goal against Fulham.

Dimitar Berbatov came in third with 2,760 votes for his fine team goal in Manchester United's win over Stoke.

Robbie Keane was in sizzling form against Burnley, but the second of his four goals was only worthy of fourth place in our poll.

Louis Saha's ice-cool finish handed Everton all the points at Portsmouth and earned him fifth place in the poll, ahead of Kevin Phillips's strike in Birmingham's defeat to Bolton.

Goal of the Week result:

1. Fernando Torres (3rd, Liverpool v Hull) - 4,661 votes

2. Robin van Persie (Arsenal at Fulham) - 2,972 votes

3. Dimitar Berbatov (Man Utd at Stoke) - 2,760 votes

4. Robbie Keane (2nd, Tottenham v Burnley) - 989 votes

5. Louis Saha (Everton at Portsmouth) - 538 votes

6. Kevin Phillips (Birmingham v Bolton) - 325 votes
