Kittel wins in Munster
Marcel Kittel won the Munsterland Giro after a bunch sprint saw him pip compatriot John Degenkolb in their homeland of Germany.
Riding for Dutch team Skil-Shimano, the 23-year-old claimed his 15th victory of the season to add to his stage seven win at the Vuelta a Espana and multiple stages in Dunkirk and Poland.
Degenkolb of HTC-Highroad was second and Belgiam Kris Boeckmans of Topsport Vlaanderen third, both with the same time of four hours and 24.44 seconds at the end of the 181km ride.
The day ended in disappointment for Leopard Trek, whose riders Stuart O’Grady and Linus Gerdemann - a Munster native - had impressed early on, with Fabian Wegmann their highest-placed rider in sixth.
