SPL - Boyd, Cuellar keep Rangers in hunt

Rangers cruised to a 2-0 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle with a goal in each half from Kris Boyd and Carlos Cuellar.

Striker Boyd put them ahead after just 45 seconds when he fastened on to a pass from Spanish forward Nacho Novo 16 metres out and sent a low shot into the bottom right of the net.

Spanish defender Cuellar grabbed the second goal in 63 minutes.

Rangers remain second in the SPL standings with 25 points, three behind champions Celtic who won 2-1 at Kilmarnock earlier on Saturday with a first-half double from Australian striker Scott McDonald.

Aberdeen beat Dundee United 2-0 in a hard-fought encounter.

United ended the match with nine men after skipper Barry Robson was sent off in the 80th minute for a fierce challenge on Chris Maguire and Lee Wilkie was dismissed in stoppage time for a second booking.

Falkirk beat Gretna 2-0 while Motherwell and St Mirren slugged out a 1-1 draw.

Hibernian face Hearts in the Edinburgh derby on Sunday.
