Champions League - Bayern stunned by Bordeaux

Eurosport - Tue, 03 Nov 21:45:00 2009

Bayern Munich succumbed to a shock 2-0 defeat at home to Bordeaux to leave their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread.

FOOTBALL 2009-2010 Bayern-Bordeaux (Ciani et Gourcuff) - 0

Two defensive blunders gifted Laurent Blanc's side all three points, Yoann Gourcuff and Marouane Chamakh pouncing on errors to give the French side a deserved win.

The first half began slowly, with Bayern dominating possession against an away side clearly set up not to concede, the French champions frustrating their hosts with a well organised and disciplined display.

The match exploded into life just after the half-hour mark, a Bastian Schwiensteiger free-kick sparking a melee in the Bordeaux area before the German's effort was palmed away by Cedric Carrasso in the French goal. From the resulting cross Miroslav Klose's goal-bound effort was kept out by the hand of Michael Ciani, a fact missed by referee, Pedro Proenca.

To further compound Bayern's misery the away side opened the scoring seconds later, Gourcuff heading home unmarked from a Wendel free-kick on 38 minutes, although Hans-Jorg Butt should have done a lot more to keep out the French midfielders effort.

Bayern brought on Arjen Robben for the second half and the Dutchman sparked the home side into life, and the Bundesliga side missed a golden opportunity to equalise almost immediately, Luca Toni blasting the ball over the bar from 12 yards after breaking free of the Bordeaux defence.

The Bavarians continued to attack at will, with Robben and Toni both missing further chances to equalise.

However it was Bordeaux who struck again on 90 minutes, and it was a nightmare for Bayern keeper, Butt. The German stopper missed the ball completely when rushing from his box to clear a long ball, leaving Chamakh to tap home into an empty net.

Bayern stay third in Group A, six points adrift of Bordeaux in top spot and four away from second-placed Juventus with two games to play.

  1. Bayern is no worse than in the last 10 years. They just miss desperately a decent keeper! Butt is a disaster, Rensing at times is even worse, although on a single night he can do miracles. Overall, the keepers' level in this year's Champions League is embarassing, except for Buffon. Think of Casillas and Dida in the 2-3 at the Bernabeu...

I don't know what is going wrong with them but in that form they won't eben survive Haifa, wake the f*** up!!!
