Championship - Ferguson hints at striker bid

Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson hopes to bring in a new striker before the weekend clash with Championship leaders Newcastle.

Ferguson cast his eye over trialists Josh Simpson and Danny Wright, both from Histon, in Tuesday's reserve game at Luton and he could be set for a busy week ahead of the trip to St James' Park.

"There is a chance I could sign a striker I was interested in during the summer on loan later this week and that's a position we need to strengthen," he told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.

However, Ferguson ruled out the possibility of cashing in on star names such as George Boyd in order to fund moves into the transfer market.

"I certainly won't be tempted to sell any of our star players. In our situation we have to hang on our better players," he added.
