Lorenzo aiming for flying finish

Jorge Lorenzo heads into the final round of the 2009 MotoGP season searching for the single point he needs to confirm himself as vice-champion at Valencia.

The Spaniard's title dreams came to an end last time out at Sepang when he finished behind Fiat Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi, but has nonetheless moved himself into a prime position to ensure the team finishes the season as 1-2.

Another home round for Lorenzo, although a single podium finish in seven attempts means Valencia has not treated him so well in the past, he is confident he can challenge for victory come race day.

"Valencia is an amazing place to finish the Championship, at home, with your fans," he said. "I've never got a victory here and I know that it's not one of the best tracks for Yamaha, but I am confident that I can try to change that and finish the championship in the best possible way.

"The last two races haven't been great for me and I really want to get over that. Furthermore, I need one point to become vice-champion' and I would really like to do that with a podium or a win. That's my aim in Valencia.

"My best race here was in 2005, when I finished in second place but I think my best memory was in 2006 when I won the championship there. 2009 has been an amazing year for me and for Yamaha and I am looking forward to celebrating with my fans at a home race."

MotoGP round 17 at Valencia LIVE this weekend, starting with qualifying at 11:40am on Friday 6 November on British Eurosport (Sky 410 / Virgin Media 521); Also available on your PC via the Eurosport Player - click on the link under the picture to subscribe

  2. Rossi is an egotistical, self obsessed idiot. He absolutely gets on my nerves with his constant "i love me" attitude. If he would grow up i would have much more respect for him as he is a top notch rider, but he is so big headed i just cant find anything to like about him.
