Premier League - Paper Round: Sheva a Blue?

Eurosport - Tue, 03 Nov 08:21:00 2009

Carson Yeung swept into Birmingham last month with ambitious plans to turn Blues into a genuine Premier League force.

It's a great idea and he is looking to break into the key Asian market. But how is he going to do this?

Well, according to the Daily Mirror, he plans to lure Andriy Shevchenko to St Andrew's. This is a striker who could not get it right with the stars of Chelsea so it's a bit of a risk to pin your faith in a Ukrainian who seems to have lost his legs.

It doesn't seem to be getting any better for Rafa Benitez, as virtually to a man the papers are saying Fernando Torres is on the brink of undergoing hernia surgery. What with Steven Gerrard already struggling, it's tough times for the Spaniard at Liverpool.

And Ian Wright has put the boot into Benitez by slamming his transfer dealings. The former England striker says Benitez was wrong to let a host of strikers go and not bring in any decent support for Torres. 'You'll never win the title with just one top striker', states Wright in his column in The Sun.

Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson is one of the most vaunted players in the Championship and The Sun claims Sunderland have won the race for his signature.

The Sun says Newcastle boss Chris Hughton is lining up a £4m bid for Sheffield United's Matt Kilgallon. £4m!? That's enough to make you fall of your chair in shock!

Adam Pearson arrived at Hull on Monday and his first act according to The Sun is to scrutinise the transfer of Jimmy Bullard and a host of other signings made by Paul Duffen.

Bullard joined the club in January and was tipped to lead them up the table, but played just one game last season after damaging the knee he injured so badly while at Fulham.

  1. Yip is your typical modern footall fan. Has got a f**king clue. I don't think Birmingham's immediate ambitions are to become a top 4 club somehow lol. Just a mid-table finsih would be a huge achievement in what is arguably the best league in the world. To then push on for the top half and possibly a Europa place in the next few seasons is a good and achievable ambition if the football club is managed correctly by the new owners

  3. bel why is it racist to say a side is full of foreigners and sayi am not respecting them utter garbage,am i not allowed to respond to someone dissing down my club,i am making a point that there is only three uk players in the side which meens there is 8 foreign players and my point is without them chelsea would be a bottom half team, dont come with the race card.

  4. Dave ( comment 17) this is both hatred and racism. How can you say that CFC should be called foreigners United? Fisrt. let me tell you that the most important English players: Terry, LAmps, Cole(s) are all in Chelsea. Forget about Sturridge. What if you compare Chelsea to the other big three or even to you Man City? The second point I want to remind you of, is the fact that the EPL has become so competetive and famous throughout the world is partly due to the talented foreign football players that you're indirectly insulting. Just think about the EPL without all that foreign players. ITs standards would be equal to that of the Championship. By the way is the England's squad boss English? Yes, his grandparents took part in the battle of Hastings in 1066 ( I presume you know this Battle, you the true Englishman) let me Laugh ah...ah....ah....
Chelsea till I die, and even after I die.

  6. chelsea does have a lot of foreign players but the english players they have are very important. Terry, Cole, and Lampard are all key players, and although they have cover for cole, there's no one quite like him in the league. they also bought sturridge who will probably be a very good player as he matures.

  7. yip if it was not for the foreigners in the chelsea side you would be s,h,i,t your club aint that big, city has a very nice ground, even when the last stand is built, maybe chelsea should be renamed how about the chelsea foreigners utd,.

sheva wont go to birmingham. its as simple as that. brimingham also wont become a big side. they might have a wee bit of money to spend but they would need the money city have to even think about getting top half of the table. city already had some good players, a good stadium and werea bigger club so they have managed to start turning into a decent sizt. birmingham have none of the above and have an awful manager

  12. just for the uninformed people on here Adam Pearson was the best thing to ever happen to Hull City and if he had continued to be in charge then Hull would be a strong midtable premiership side and dont be surprised if they stay up now he is back

From Peter, on Tue 3 Nov 10:46AM
  13. he's got a point about liverpool only having one real striker. Kuyt is a good player but he's more of a winger now, and he certainly can't lead the line himself week in and out and be expected to fit into Torres's role. This is what he gets for treating Robbie Keane like @#$%. I think they'd fire Benitez if they weren't afraid Torres, Reina, and Riera would be out the door with him.
