Newcastle striker Andy Carroll came through one of the toughest tests of his career to date with flying colours after being pitched into battle with Chris Morgan.
The 20-year-old had been told all about the experienced Sheffield United defender's robust approach to his job ahead of the 1-0 victory at Bramall Lane but it was he and his team-mates who got the last laugh as Morgan deflected Ryan Taylor's shot into his own net for the game's only goal.
Carroll said: "I was warned before the game to watch out for his tactics. The lads were right, he was trying to throw me about.
"I had to get stuck in and do what I can do to defenders. I thought I did all right against them and I created a few chances.
"It was a tough battle for me. Playing against Chris Morgan is hard for any player and he ragged me all over the place at times.
"I stuck at it and by the end, as a team, we got our reward with Ryan's strike."

This kid is awesome. If he continues to progress, he will become a hell of a player. Reminds me a little of big dunc but without the injuries.
Good old-fashioned centre forward.
I like this boy.
Raise a glass everyone to "Twangers n Parfitt"!
good battling performance, & you were very unlucky not to score! - not the best of games, but, we were away & happy with the 3 points
