Late show sends United through

Antonio Valencia's deflected injury-time effort preserved Manchester United's long Champions League unbeaten home record and swept Sir Alex Ferguson's men into the last 16 as they drew 3-3 with CSKA Moscow.

Trailing 3-1 to a spirited CSKA Moscow outfit with barely six minutes remaining, Sir Alex Ferguson's side delved into their box of tricks, pulling a goal back through Paul Scholes before Valencia's 25-yard effort flew in off Georgi Schennikov.

After a flying start from United, there was a sense of bewilderment when the opening goal ended up in the home net, with Alan Dzagoev running at Jonny Evans before slamming home a 25th minute opener. Michael Owen, though, quickly drilled home a poacher's effort to level (29).

Parity lasted one minute as Milos Krasic galloped into the box unchallenged, collected Tomas Necid's pass, skipped past Edwin Van der Sar and, after a neat pivot, tapped into an empty net.

It got worse for United after the break as within two minutes of the restart Dzagoev floated a free-kick to the far post where Vasili Berezutski nodded home, before Darren Fletcher was denied a certain penalty and was booked for diving.

New dad Wayne Rooney then came off the bench for United and looked on as first Scholes nodded home (84), before Valencia's effort flew in off the unfortunate Schennikov.
